Trailer/Motor Home Campsites on LI
I am curious to get some feedback on areas to camp with a motor home/trailer on LI or somewhere within an hour or 2 driving distance out of NY.
My husband would like to get a trailer. I am NOT a woods type of gal...i hated camping as a kid and I dont think I would really enjoy it now either. Yet, I am trying to compromise for him and our son since its something they would really enjoy, especially in the upcoming years as our son gets older.
I am definitely willing to get a trailer but only if we frequent Lake or Beach Campsites.
When I was a kid, the only time I enjoyed camping in my parents motor home was when we would take it to cedar/gilgo beach.
Can you still camp at these beaches? Also, are there other local campgrounds on LI? I have heard of Hither Hills, but are there any others?
I would love to hear about others experiences with owning trailers/motor homes as well. How often do you use it, where do you take it, etc.
Thanks!

Tons of places. My fave will always be Hershey high meadow campground. It's owned by Hershey park but so many other things to do around there.

Wildwood is a good one, but it doesn't offer many activities. You can rent a trailer at most campgrounds- I grew up camping, but DH never did. We're currently in Strawberry Park Campground (CT) renting a deluxe model trailer. It's giving DH a chance to interact with a campground and understand what it's like to live in a trailer before we purchase one (something he's already looking up after being here for a day!). My boys are loving it and there are so many possibilities for where you can take them! You should try it out.

Southampton right on the inlet is beautiful. I've never done if, but friends have, and I see it when we're at the beach of course. Hither Hills in Montauk sounds amazing too. I've heard, no idea if it's true, that both book up right away.

Poconos and Upstate NY camping is really big.
DH eventually wants to do this too.
We've yet to camp ever though LOL.

Really local - I just saw campers set up at Blydenburg Park in Hauppauge
