Is it an insult?

We were invited to a Bar Mitzvah. The response card has 2 lines - one to indicate attending the services & Kiddush luncheon on Saturday morning and the other to indicate attending the celebration that Saturday night. Is it an insult to only attend the party? Haven't been to many Bar Mitzvahs and have never seen this on a invite before.

Thanks!

Re: Is it an insult?

It's pretty common if people are having the party in the evening if the service is in the morning.
I would go to the service and kiddush too- it's the whole reason for the big celebration in the evening.
Unless you have a scheduling conflict in the morning.

ETA: I would be hurt if my friends didn't attend my child's bar mitzvah ceremony unless they had a good reason. This is an important milestone in a Jewish child's life.

I have never seen that, but many people (including Jews!) skip the ceremony. I think you're fine!

I think that since they give you the option, they clearly know and understand that some people will only attend one portion of the event.

I have always attended the service (except for one time), I wouldn't think not to since this is the whole reason for the party and it's the important part. IMO it would be rude not to ( unless you have an issue where u can't)
