Kennebunkport, Maine
DH and I are going there in September. We have accommodation sorted, so I'm wondering what there is to do there.
Any good side-of-the-road lobster shacks you can suggest?
Any places we could stop on the drive there (from Long Island)?
Thanks!

We've been there 2x.
For side of the road lobster shacks, definitely try The Clam Shack. It's in town, and while it usually has a line, moves quickly.
Another great place to eat is Nunan's Lobster Hut. Their chowder and steamed lobster is fantastic.
On the drive up, you can try stopping at Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier for lunch.

We have gone two times. The lobster is to die for! There is a ton to do in the area. We usually stay a week. Take a trip up to the outlets (LL Bean etc.). Also Portland is a very cool city, with great restaurants.
Cape Pier Chowder House is good Alisson's on the main street has great chowder

Believe it or not Maine is also known for their duck -- and they have a duck festival every August and September with many restaurants offering it in a variety of styles. If you are a duck fan, order it, because it'll be amazing!
Also, I'm not sure how far Bar Harbor is from there but if you can do it - see it! Bar Harbor was beautiful and we loved Acadia National Park as well. I recommend the tour - as sometimes cheesy as tours can be, this one wasn't at all and offered FASCINATING information, history, and stories -- loved it! It was on a trolley.
Oh and try and do whale watching if you can!!!

Thanks! DH and I are huge duck fans. I had no idea it was a thing there. I'll definitely be on the look out for that. I can't fit Bar Harbour in, unfortunately. Next trip!
I'll look into whale watching tours.

Re: Kennebunkport, Maine
We just got back from a week in Maine (Portland and Bar Harbor) and stopped in Kennebunkport for lunch on the way back. Such a cute town.
I recommend the place we ate at, Salt & Honey, right in the middle of everything.
We went for a drive along the water and checked out the houses (AMAZING) and drive past the Bush compound LOL. Lots of shopping and great toy shop right in town too!
We saw people kayaking too.

If you are up for a ride to Portland for dinner one night, Fore Street is a wonderful restaurant. One of the best restaurants we've come across while traveling.

There's a tiny village, Perkin's Cove, right by there. Very cute and quaint. Lots of great restaurants and there's a beautiful Cliff Walk/Marginal Way to check out. Definitely look it up.
