Daycare and crying-does this happen a lot?

I started my girls in daycare 3 days a week about 5 weeks ago. They will be three in September. Before that, they had an in home sitter and I should tell you that morning separation has always been an on and off issue. they went thru phases where they would scream and cry (and vomit) when I left and other times where they didn't even care to say goodbye when the sitter came.
That being said, I'm bothered by the fact that they are still crying at drop off and throughout the day because they "miss mommy". I asked the teacher if other kids are crying as well and she did say yes... it happens. And sometimes one sets off the other. I totally expected there to be tears given they have never been good with being out of my sight but I really thought at this point, they would have moved past it.
Does anyone else experience something similar? Im seriously thinking about switching day cares because it seems there is always a different teacher at drop off-although they have the same teacher from 9:30-5. The morning routine is covered by whoever is available and its never the same person. I feel like the inconsistency makes it a little rough...

In the majority of daycare centers, they have openers and closers that cover drop offs and end of the day pick-up. They can vary based on scheduling, the amount of kids, etc. I also think it may be worse if you shake up their routine a third time by moving them to another daycare, and to be honest unless there were other things I was unhappy with in the school, I wouldn't switch daycares over this.

I'm confused because you say that mornings have always been an issue. Had it stopped for awhile before this?

Their morning issue always came and went in phases. Never lasting this long. Im more concerned about the fact that its happening throughout the day though. That never happened before.
I know what you mean about changing it up and making it worse. That's why I have held off.

It's only been 5 weeks. Imo the older the kid the harder it is with change. They are fully aware at this age so it may take some time. Switching won't help the issue. I think it could make it worse.

I'd give it more time.

It's annoying that the drop off teacher is never the same, but in my experience, I think they'd adjust to that. DS has a different teacher for drop off (although it's the same teacher every day) but I know he enjoys going in other classrooms throughout the day, too. He knows all the teachers now (even the baby ones) and loves visiting them. He's been there since he was 19 months. I think your girls will adjust.

how old are they?

My younger son is 4 and has been going since 6 months old and still doesn't like me to leave in the morning. The key is finding a way to distract him (and some teachers are better than others at helping with this)

As for during the day, do they nap? I found that sometimes after nap time the kids wake up and miss mommy - then they get over it once they are distracted.
