Levittown moms: favorite pool for young children?
I'm new to Levittown and was really excited about my pool pass. But then I went to Parkway pool with a friend and had some bad experiences. No place to sit and/or eat, no toys allowed in the kiddie pool (?!!?), and my friend was told to leave her sleeping infant in a stroller in a gated area outside the pool; she couldn't come in with the stroller even though she needed to supervise her 3 year old.
No bueno.
Are there any other Levittown pools that are a little friendlier to the 4 and under crowd?

I worked at the Levittown pools for 9 years and unfortunately, nope.
All of them have a designated area where you need to keep strollers. No pools allow for toys. In terms of pools, I like azalea and slate the best. Slate seems to be the best for little kids. You can keep the stroller closer to the kiddie pool.

I don't understand the no toy rule, but that was minuscule compared to the stroller issue. There was no shade and the baby was hot and tired. I know "rules are rules," but good grief. What are moms of littles and have more than one child supposed to do?

They are very strict. Got yelled at today for leaving a towel hanging on the fence behind where I was sitting... Better off going to a town of hempstead pool...

Levittown pools are run by the town of Hempstead.
Rachel - the rules are dumb. I have no idea why no toys are allowed, but kids are allowed to fling a pool tag around the kiddie pool, which is absurd. Acorn and Jerusalem have a shade canopy in their sun deck where strollers are permitted. Acorn's pool is always cold and there is no liner in the pool. Jerusalem is open 10-10. The only problem with it is that they have swim meets there over the weekends.
Slate's sun deck is close to the kiddie pool and has shade in the afternoon. Parkway, west, azalea also get shade at some point of the day, but it's not near the kiddie pool. Never go to Carmen - it has no shade whatsoever - ever! I was never a big fan of Wolcott.

Regular town of hempstead pools let you bring toys in... The Levittown pools have totally different rules. I take my son to Hewlett Point Beach in East Rockaway (Bay Park). They let them bring anything in...

Wolcott has the shade canopy too. Last year I was really annoyed at Azalea when my older son was doing swim lessons and my younger son was an infant. I tried putting a stroller umbrella on him so at least he had some sun and they told me no! They all have the no eating rule and they all have the stroller behind the gate rule. However, I used to carry the infant carrier under a tree and they couldn't tell me no for that :)

I've not been by in a long time but I remember Bluegrass having a nice shaded area adjacent to the kiddie pool. I think there is a small playground too. My mom always preferred Bluegrass to Slate even though Slate was in walking distance.

I think you can leave your stroller in a certain area at Bluegrass. Not right by the kiddie pool, but still inside the gate. The couple times I went last year, I got a spot right near the entrance and the kiddie pool was right there, so didn't bother with stroller. My DD used her pool pass and her sun hat as a "toy". I don't think there was much shade.

Toys are not allowed because they are distracting. Lifeguards need to keep a count of people. If you have 10 people in the water and each has 1 toy, now you need to keep track of 20 things. Do you want lifeguards keeping track of children or pool toys.
As for strollers, towels on fences, etc. most of it is safety related. They want to keep sight lines open. Don't forget, yes you have lifeguards that are on duty at the pool, but the other lifeguards are also on duty and paying attention to what is going on. Just because they are not sitting in the chair, does not mean they do not know what is going on. And in the event of an emergency, they do not want to have to contend with toys, strollers blocking the path, etc.

I know you'd have to pay...but if VETS in East Meadow or Forest City are both TOH and good. You can bring toys, they have places you eat eat. Strollers can be pretty close by. They also both have playgrounds.
