Can I have DD meet a uniformed police officer?

DD recently asked me how she can tell the difference between a real police officer and pretend one. I was hoping to have her meet a uniformed police officer so she can see what they look like and maybe what a real badge looks like. Is it appropriate to go to a station and ask?

i dont see why not, you can even approach a cop car thats out on duty if you wanted to. Im curious about what she means by pretend tho?

Like pretend on TV or people impersonating them?

Because not every cop is in uniform there are a lot of plain clothes and undercover cops, detectives... who arent wearing uniforms.

DD was confused about people in uniforms and how to tell if one is a police officer. Like beach and store security guards, store clerks, workmen, delivery people. She wasn't sure how to tell when to trust someone and I realized that was a very important good question.

Hard to tell... Even for adults. You can easily get scammed by a good costume.

You can always call a station & ask them this question. A local station in Forest Hills had a particularly nice staff a few years ago... But try your local first.

In Nassau county the police have unit called POP unit, people oriented policing Suffolk as a similar unit but with a different name, they are meant to interact with the community, call you local station

But in real life it might be hard to "show" the difference of people in uniform. Real cops wear a gun, main diff.
