3 year old - iron vitamin
Does anyone have experience with this? My 3 year old have an iron deficiency and need to take the liquid (brown)? Honestly he rarely gets it as we would have to pin him down......that stuff is gross.
What do you do if you have an older child that needs this?
There is no alternative chewable per my peds office!
Thanks

My DS has anemia. HE takes the flinstone with iron per my ped and I make sure he eats iron rich foods. His iron levels increased quite a bit just after a month doing that.

Flintstone with iron. Idk if its enough but better than nothing bc they won't touch the liquid. And I can't blame them. You would think they would make a chewable prescription with iron.

Can you put it in a little bit of milk or something and make him drink it? My 17 mo old is iron deficient and this is how I have to give it to her.

Ypu shouldn't mix iron vitamin with dairy (and try not to have the two taken within two hours of each other) because calcium can inhibit the absorption of the iron into the blood stream

I was told this as well!
My son is almost three and was on chewables for almost a year before being switched back to the brown liquid so it's not happening. He will eat veggies over red meat so I need to talk to them again at his next appt.
Thanks

My dd was rx the brown stuff too and it is disgusting! So we switched to an iron gummy. She liked to eat them but every time said her belly hurt. Ped said to stop it and two animal parade multi vitamins a day are sufficient.
I give a lot of spinach and make her eat citrus after for iron absorption.

My ped told me it was fine -- I specifically asked this question -- im not talking about an 8 oz glass of milk -- Mixing a little is going to be much better than not getting it at all
