Does anyone live in the Medford area? We found a house we love- we have been searching for months so it makes me feel too good to be true! It meets all our criteria except 1 which isn't a huge deal and budget. It's in the Eagle Estates development does anyone live in there or have any reviews?

I don't live in Medford, but not far from it. Like any town, it has its good and bad. Is it Sachem schools, or Patchogue Medford?

My dh grew up in Eagle Estates and my MiL still lives there. She is actually selling her house now. The neighborhood does not have the greatest rep. But from what I have experienced for the last 10 years, it is like any other neighborhood. I would live there. Where is the house you are looking at? I will ask my dh.

Cant speak from personal experiencbut I have a lot of friends from the Pat-Med area and they are all moving out. They aren't happy with the school district primarily. Also, I know Eagle Estates specifically gets a bad rap because of its diversity... And a friend of ours use to live there and was robbed while they were home sleeping (could honestly happen anyway, but just sharing with you) so they moved. On the plus, My FIL still lives in the area and I like visiting. He is in Patchogue between off of 112. They really built up Main Street in Patchogue, lots of great restaurants and entertainment. Everything you need is within a ten minute drive and you a super close to all major highways. Love the Target in Medford! It's not hectic like some of the others.

Do you have kids or are you planning on having kids? I don't think the school district is the best, if that matters to you. For some it is very important, others feel they make the best of any district and it doesn't matter to them. Just one thing to consider.
The area is very diverse but that has its pros and cons.

The district has a new superintendent that is great. Everyone I know that is involved in the schools is extremely happy with what he's been doing.

Don't have kids yet but trying. As for schooling we both went to private school our entire lives so we are going to continue with the same and utilize private schools for our children so while I want to live in a good safe area that is good for a family if the district isn't top it's not a deal breaker. Thanks for the insight :)

If you can, join the FB mom group for the area.
I have found that the opinions on the FB mom groups are a lot better and more realistic than LIF.

YES! The Superintendent is AMAZING!!! I live in Medford, not Eagle Estates but my child does go to Eagle Elementary. I am beyond satisfied with her school. Like all parents, I have very high standards, but maybe even a little higher since I myself am a teacher. Every area has its ups and downs but it's all about how you raise your child. My first grader is thriving in her school and the teachers are all wonderful!!! Everyone is going to to have their own opinions and what not but you have to go with your heart. Best of luck in your decision!

I don't live in the district, but several of my teacher colleagues do and are extremely happy with the district. I would research that area well as I've heard mixed things, though that could have been old perceptions.
