Car seat installation
Is there a weight limit for the latch system.?my in-laws got theircar seat put in today. The officer told them that a child over 40pounds should not have the latch system on the car seat it should be installed with the seatbelt. Also the back facing infant see it should be installed with the Teether. I didn't know the latch system has a weight limit and they also thought the back facing car seats shouldn't use the teether system. Has anybody ever heard of this? Or my just not properly informed.

Not sure about latch but we absolutely used the teether when rear facing. I would refer to your car manual about the latch.

Re: Car seat installation
Sorry it won't let me create a clickable link but here's the info about weight limits for latch.
http://csftl.org/whats-the-deal-with-weight-limits/
You don't need to use the top tethers for a rear facing seat and only some seats actually allow it when rear facing. http://thecarseatlady.com/rearfacingtether/ If your seat is not on the list of seats that allow tethering for rear facing seats, you can't do it.
Forward facing, definitely use the top tethers.

I just got our two seats put in and they said EXACTLY what you just mentioned.... Over 40 lbs uses a seatbelt and front facing only uses a tether.

Depends...
All car seats manufactured after February 2014 will have a label that clearly defines the maximum weight limit for installing that car seat with lower anchors. That maximum weight limit will be 65 lbs when the car seat weight and the child’s weight are combined.
So if your seat has a date of manufacturing of Feb. 2014 or later, it's 65lb limit (seat and child's weights).
