Re: After Birth....
I don't know for sure since it hasn't happened to me yet, but at our childbirth class they said that it gets "delivered" right after the baby comes. I've heard rumors that it actually feels kinda good. I think the mom hardly notices because she's so distracted with her new baby.

Re: After Birth....
Your uterus will continue to contract to help you birth the placenta. You might feel your legs shake a little but you'll be so delighted with your new little one you'll hardly notice.

...which looks like a big liver.
I shook a lot - enough to scare the heck out of my husband. Luckily I had seen my sister give birth so I knew it was normal. You have a lot of adrenaline in your body so it's completely normal.
If you tore or had an episiotomy, your doctor will stitch you up.
They will also put a post partum shot of postpartum pitocin in your IV to help the uterus contract and control the post partum bleeding.
They'll also bring the baby immediately over to the warmer & suction out anything that needs sucking. He/she will cry a bit. You may nurse if you're going to but you can expect that the baby will be exhausted from all of that activity & want to
. This, of course, is the last time he'll sleep until he's 3. (kidding, kidding)

Re: After Birth....
I had an all natural childbirth so after giving birth to an 8lb baby delivering the placenta was a piece of cake. For some women the contractions to deliver the placenta come right away and for other women it can take a little while. They are super mild contractions and for me it wasn't painful at all. There is also so much going on in the room with the baby and doctors, nurses, etc. that it kind of just happens in a split second.

Re: After Birth....
I remember thinking "oh, I guess I have to deliver the placenta", meanwhile it had happened already and I was already stitched up and had no idea! You are so occupied with the baby and everything that you will barely notice.
