1YO getting carsick
I've tried everything I can think of. Feeding before a ride, not feeding before a ride, seabands, windows open, toys, benadryl, you name it. He's too young for dramamine or bonine and it's to the point where he won't even get in the car seat anymore because he's relating it to not feeling well. I've even switched to forward facing to see if it was the backward movement. That seemed to help a little but still ends up in getting sick in the long run. Does anyone have tips or tricks or am I homebound for the forseeable future??

dramamine is benedryl, so if the benedryl didn't work, neither will dramamine. I can't think of anything else that you could try, but I wouldn't let it keep me homebound... I think you've tried everything I would. I would ask his ped if there was anything they could prescribe for long rides (maybe the ear patches). I am surprised the seabands didn't work, those are amazing! I wonder if it was too big for him and not putting enough pressure where needed.

Re: 1YO getting carsick
Thanks! I should have mentioned my next stop is the ENT to see if it might be ear related (he has had an ear infection though it's not recurring). But...how do I get him to the ENT without getting sick?!!?

Ask the ENT's office when the least busy time of day is, that way the waiting room won't be crazy full. Most patients seen at the ENT's office aren't sick, really, they're there for other reasons typically. If they are sick, it's for things that aren't necessarily communicable, like a recurrent/chronic issue of rhinitis/sinusitis, which is more typically related to an anatomical issue requiring surgery.

Re: 1YO getting carsick
We had the same problem with my daughter and the ped said there was nothing they could do bc of her age. We are lucky in that we didnt have to put her in the car daily. We got a smock to put her in and covered her car seat with wee-wee pads. I kept my car with paper towels and febreze. The only thing i can say is that she DID outgrow it!!! It was when she was close to 2yo but at least its not life long.

Thanks for giving me hope! I pray he outgrows it. He gets SO upset every time he gets sick we have to immediately pull over and get him out of the seat. Which means I can't even drive alone. Luckily he doesn't need to be in daily either (thank goodness!) but we're usually out and about on the weekends.

Re: 1YO getting carsick
What kind of car do you drive? If there is a middle seat, try that so he can look out the front window. Maybe he is getting too hot in the car. Sun beating down on him. Don't give him any toys to look at or let him watch any thing. Keep it cool in the car.. I get car sick bad... Started when I was 7.... looking out the front window is what helped me
