Six Flags in NJ - good for kids?

I'm looking into Six Flags in NJ to take my kids ages 5 and 3 but now I'm thinking there isn't much to do for them. Is it worth it? Do they have enough rides? TIA

I haven't been in a few years but I always found them to have bigger, thrill rides. It's not the park I think of for little ones. Also, I always found Great Adventure to be a little on the skanky/dirty side. But again, I haven't been in a few years.

My boys are 5 and 3 (going to be 6 and 4 soon) and we all love it. There's a TON of kid rides and hardly ever a wait if any. It's the big rides that have a wait.

Only thing I do is sneak in food bc they don't allow it so I put my 3 year old in a stroller and the bottom I put a thin cooler with food and throw diapers (obviously clean ones and my 3 yr old is potty trained, but no one is going to touch them) and a sweatshirt or wipes on top. The food there is overpriced and nothing great like most park foods. Obviously will get a pretzel and ice cream sometimes. They do allow drinks so you don't have to hide them.

We had a seasons pass since last year, but I also live about 15 minutes away and we go some mornings for a couple of hours then go home.
Safari ride is cute and there's also a water park.

ETA - it's not really dirty and skanky anymore. I haven't gone in years bc I remember it being like that, but they've cleaned up a lot. Especially since you'll be in the kid area. They have a few areas for the kids to go on rides and there really are a lot.

Like the previous poster, it was skanky when we went years ago. I wasn't a fan, and we never went back.

I think there are better places to spend your money. Unless of course you live very close to it. We like Lake Compounce, Dutch Wonderland and Hershey Park much better.

It's worth it for kids for a few hours since it won't cost you anything. The Jackson outlets are literally right around the corner if you want to do some shopping and have time. No tax on clothing in NJ. Chat Icon
If you are doing the day besides GA and the outlets there's not much to do in Jackson. If you want to do a nice restaurant for dinner go into Freehold, which isn't far or go down the shore.

Can you use the tickets at any Six Flags?

If so, I highly recommend Six Flags New England in Massachusetts . We do it as a day trip every year. It's a bazillion times cleaner, less crowded and overall just better than Great Adventure, especially for kids. They also gave a water park on premises that you don't need a separate ticket for.

Eh, used to go as a kid and stopped going. Would not take my child there these days. Better places to go.

It depends on how far you drive. I live around the block with EricaAlt and it's great to go for 2 hours and come home. I don't think I would drive from NY to come here.
