Re: has anyone been to Charleston south carolina
We went last summer, although we stayed in Kiawah Island and just did day trips to Charleston. We only ate two meals in the actual city of Charleston. I can't recall the first place we ate (nothing special). The second place was Poogan's Porch. Food was great and it is a super cute place. It is super popular though, so there was a bit of a wait (25 min for lunch), but we walked around the block and they texted us when the table was ready. http://www.poogansporch.com/

Re: has anyone been to Charleston south carolina
We were thinking of taking a trip mid-August. Is it really brutal temp wise where it will ruin the trip or is it manageable? Any worse than FL in the summer??

With kids or without? We just went last week with our almost 4 year old so I know a few kid-friendly places.

Re: has anyone been to Charleston south carolina
Its one of the best restaurant cities in the country. We lived there about 7 years ago but we liked:
La Fourchette Magnolia($$$) 82 Queen has a beautiful outdoor area McCradys Fish(was just there 2 weeks ago and had a great meal here) Hominy Grill for Breakfast
There are so many more. Husk has gotten a lot of attention lately

Re: has anyone been to Charleston south carolina
225 Grill has a great rooftop for drinks and excellent food.
Penninsula Grill was DELISH and you have to have the coconut cake
Halls Chophouse was my favorite though - the food was fabulous, but the PEOPLE, OMG the NICEST people you will ever meet. I walked in and was greeted by the owner, and then his mom came to the table with champagne, and later on (it was DH's 40th) the owner's son came back to us again with shots (and did them w/ us, and our waitress) It's a beautiful upscale steakhouse, but you feel like you're hanging out at your BFF's Mom's kitchen table, THAT is how nice they are.
We went the first week of August last year and it was BRUTALLY hot. To the point that it wasn't really enjoyable. I'd definitely go back, but never again in the summer. It's the kind of stifiling heat that smacks you in the face when you walk out the door and you immediately begin sweating ........

We ate at Magnolia - it was a nice experience but IMO the food was not worth the $$$!! I would check out Yelp, I find them to be very reliable.

Re: has anyone been to Charleston south carolina
I was there last May & went to Poogan's Porch, Magnolias, Fish, and Virginia's on King
I enjoyed them all-- Poogan's Porch had the best biscuits! Everything was so crowded though- we ate at the bar at Poogan's Porch the first night & then made Open Table reservations for everything else( except Virginia's because we went for lunch. ) Husk never had any open reservations.
