Ready to feed vs powdered formula
My daughter has been using Similac Sensitive Ready to feed formula since my granddaughter was born 3 weeks ago. (she used it with her first daaughter too) Just wondering if you use the powder, is it the same consistency? does the baby have issues with constipation, etc on the powdered? I'm thinking it's more convenient when you are out, don't have to worry about keeping bottles cold etc. and it seems ounce for ounce, the powdered formula is less expensive. Thanks.

I always found powdered formula to be much thinner than ready to feed. No clue about constipation. DD never had an issue.

We liked the ready to feed much better. With the powder and shaking, especially with similac, it gave so much foam at top with air bubbles that def would contribute to gas. Also, the ingredients are slightly diff in ready to feed vs powder, at least in alimentum for sure.

Oh and we never had to keep bottles cold. They sell ready to feed in small cans that we would just keep in the diaper bag and save the big 32oz ones while at home and can be kept in the fridge.

This exactly. My son is 3 weeks old on Monday and also on Similac sensitive. I had switched to the powder for the convenience of nighttime feedings and while we are out and about. Huge mistake. He's completely miserable and so so gassy and fussy. Feedings have become a problem. He screams in pain. So I stopped powdered and went strictly to RTF and it seems to be getting better, he's not as irritable. The powder was just too foamy and bubbly for him.
But every baby Is different. My girls were fine on both powder or RTF

We only used powder except for s few ready to feed bottles I had. Every time I gave him the ready to feed he would spit up. Powder he was fine.

She started off on ready to feed but we switched to generic powder and had no issues. We ended up switching back very briefly bc we had gotten some for free and I noticed a big difference. The RTF suddenly made her spit up a lot and was a bit binding. We went back to generic powder and never looked back. It was much cheaper too.

I used to go between both, using whatever was convenient at that moment. I know that's frowned upon ( now I know that, I didn't know that back then) but I never had an issue. DS was always a really good eater with no sensitivities so it was fine either way.

This is so true, I hated the similac powder for this reason. The enfamil mixes so much better and isn't as foamy.

We only used rtf based on the recommendation of my pediatrician, although it was pricier. DS had has issues and Ped said the rtf would be better for him. We ended up on alimentum rtf.

We eventually used interchangeably but probably at about 2 mo. Powder was thinner.

Powdered formula is thinner but my kids had NO issues switching from RTF to powder. RTF is SO expensive and it really adds up once they start increasing their ounces. Powder formula offers the same nutrients at a much more affordable price, especially if you go generic. I only used RTF in the very beginning because I had so many samples but once those ran out I made the switch. It was also easier dealing with powder when you're out, I just carried around a bottle of water to make bottles as needed.
ETA - As for air bubbles, we used Playtex Drop-Ins and pushed out all the excess air and both kids never had an issue with gas. LOVE the Drop-In bottles.
