Potty Training and Formal Party
My very stubborn 3 year old is finally showing an interest in potty training. He's very bright, but so stubborn. He is the only one in pull ups in his preschool class and doesn't care.
Anyway, yesterday I had him in underwear all day (he doesn't have school Tuesdays). He did very well. Usually the only time he makes is only at home with no pants on. For pee only too.
So... bc he was in underwear yesterday he wanted to go to school in underwear. He usually will never go into the school bathroom even though the whole class gets taken. He went today! Twice! Pee and poop! We were all shocked and surprised. His teacher said he was crying and wouldn't poop, but she could tell he had to go.
It's only the 2nd day and I don't want to go back to pull ups. Fingers crossed he stays dry.
Saturday we have a Bar Mitzvah. Going to temple then the party after. He has a suit he's wearing. I am not buying another pair of suit pants. Ugh! Do I just pray and keep taking him?

I would see how the rest of the week goes. If he continues to go well, I would keep him in underwear.
My older son was 3y4m when he finally trained but, once he did it - he did it (poop took longer but, he did that at home so it was easier to monitor).

When DD was newly potty trained, I used to put a pull up over her undies for something like that, like when she was in a wedding, no change of clothes possible! That way she would still feel like she has underwear on, but if she had an accident it wasn't a big deal.
It worked for us, she had no issues doing that and just being in underwear, no regressions or anything, but she's also a really easy going kid.

I would stick to the underwear, but don't wait for him to tell you that day. Just take him potty as often as possible.
Can you pack another pair of dress pants even if they don't match the suit?

I would do pull-ups and keep taking him, as if he were wearing regular underwear.

Don't put him back in pull ups. Just keep taking him to the bathroom. I finally got my 4 year old DS potty trained a couple of weeks ago by having the pull up fairy come and take away the pull ups. From that moment on I did not put a pull up on him again and he's been doing good. We've gone shopping, to family's houses and he was good. I of course had anxiety over leaving the house the first two weeks but he did great. I also keep a potty in the car. I feel like it'll be a step back to put him in pull ups. I sent him to school with extra pants and underwear and he's been good. Some accidents at home but never when we are out (knock on wood). Does he have to wear a suit the whole time? If he does have an accident can you change him into jeans or khakis and a nice shirt? Gerber sells training pants that absorb the pee better than regular underwear. I got them for DS so the pee doesn't go all over the place. They run big though. If he's doing good, try to stay away from the pull ups.

I like this idea, so he still feels the underwear versus pull-up.

What color is the suit?
If black, you can totally get away with it!
DS was so excited to be part of a wedding, he, after being dry for over a year, just couldn't.
We totally managed.

Don't turn back!!!!! If he is going with it so should you. For the bar mitzvah u would bring a pair of khaki pants and have those as a back up. Toddlers can get away with wearing not perfect outfits!!!

I would do this or buy another pair to match his suit and hopefully not need them and return them.

My friend was just in a similar situation. Newly trained, had a fancy party, and her dd didn't want a pull up so she risked it and she did fine. I would just bring an extra pair of pants, either khaki or just any dark color pants. He's 3 so I think people would understand. I would stress to him that he doesn't want an accident there and just remind him a ton. I wouldn't let his progress slide at all (congrats btw!)
