DS does not like the afternoon nanny we hired

DS#1 is in public kindergarten and attends aftercare. DS#2 is at a preschool that has extended care available until 6pm. DH's schedule changed recently so I am now responsible for both drop off in am and pick up. It was logistically difficult so we found a PT afternoon nanny/housekeeper. We needed 2 things - help with pick up and dinner prep. Nanny seems trustworthy, responsible and is a FABULOUS cook.

Problem is our preschooler does not like her. Older kindergarten son doesn't seem to mind her. He is very independent.

WWYD?

A. Look for a new nanny that both kids like
B. Keep her only for dinner prep and occasional pick up.
C. Keep preschooler at extended care and have nanny pick up K son only.

My gut wants to keep her but it defeats the purpose if my child doesn't like her.

I would try it a bit longer before you jump to replace her. Pre-schoolers can be wishy washy dealing with change in schedule/ new people etc. If it really is not working I'd send the preschooler to after care, it's tough to find good child care

2 weeks. She has picked up the K child from extracurricular activities 2 times. once last week and once this week. She has not yet picked up our preschooler because he doesn't want anything to do with her.

He may just be adjusting to the new schedule and the new nanny. It may be his way of rebelling a bit because he probably just wants his mom and dad...and that is NOT meant to make you feel bad, I am also a FTWM so I have been there. It sucks.

ETA: I would give it some more time.

ITA with this.

As long as she's safe & not abusive, she's just picking him up from school. Maybe give her some items that she can bribe him with (cars, special drink on ride home). Kids are simple & totally fall for that stuff.

If I went by what & who my children LIKE, I'd be a SAHM, they'd be home schooled & they'd be eating cake all day & night.

I would give it time, he probably is just not used to having someone new around.

ITA.

Kids are finicky with new people sometimes.

Give it time.

This.

As long as he isn't telling you of anything that she's doing that puts them in dangerous situations, I'd give it more time.

As of now, nanny has never been alone with both kids. She has picked up my older son from kindergarten after school programs at the school twice. Older son seems fine with her.

I have no problems getting to extended care by 6. I can usually get there by 4:30-5. I just prefer for the kids to be home earlier.
