Thanks everyone dh and I were just dreaming about the day we can leave the basement door open and let the kids play downstairs alone while we cook dinner etc.
Ds is only 2 great on the stairs but I still worry
Even though DS can do the stairs, my basement stairs do not have a handrail. I insist that he (and his friends) go down on their butts.

At what age
I think they were around 2.5, maybe a little younger. In the beginning though, we had a rule that they had to tell us first if they were going up or down.
