Cough/Cold
My 1 year old had a bad cough last thursday. I took him to the dr. He said his lungs are clear and it's just a cold. Said to put vicks on him, sleep w/ humidifier, lots of water.
He had a fever saturday night of 103 so I took him to PM Pediatrics on Sunday morning. His fever went down, but again his lungs were clear, tested negative for the flu. Said it was just viral, gave same instructions as his pediatrician.
He's still not better. Still coughing, still runny nose. Should I wait it out longer, or bring him back to the dr?

Re: Cough/Cold
my 2.5yo is going through the same thing. cough cold since valentines day. on day 2 she had a fever of 102, brought her to doc and tested negative for flu and strep. fever went away but almost 2 weeks later she still has a cough. shes fine otherswise. everynight for 2 weeks we do vicks vapor rup on chest and back, cool vaporizer running during naps and night time in her room, ive been giving her zarbees cough and mucus reducer in her juice since she wont take it directly. nothing has helped. im debating to go back to doctor too. I really don't want it to turn into something worse but they will most likely tell me its just a virus. I know the reason she hasn't gotten better is because she doesn't spit out the mucus and keeps swallowing it.

Cough/Cold
If it's just the cough/runny nose and not a fever, I'd wait it out. Hayley's had the same thing since Friday. And now I have it. Like the PP said, it's hard to get rid of when they keep swallowing the mucus. Hope he feels better!

Re: Cough/Cold
DS has had a cold for almost 2 weeks. There's nothing to do. It's the time of the year and all the kids at day care are sick.

Yes, my son has had it too. It was so bad.
OP -- It has gotten better but I, like you, took him and they told me that it was just a cold -- but when it got worse instead of better I took him a third time and it had backed up into his ears and he had an ear infection. They gave him the AB and since then, only, has he turned around.
So just keep a close watch.

Yeah, this. DS had this after his 1st week of daycare, at 3 months old. Lasted about 2 weeks or so. It's the RSV cold that's been going around, it doesn't even peak until about day 7, then starts getting better.

The exact same thing happened to DS who is 2.5 finally I went back and said it has been 3 weeks he is coughing like crazy etc... finally they gave an antibiotic and it worked like magic within 2 days he cleared up. Don't tell me it's just viral when as soon as he took the medicine he was better. So frustrating.

Re: Cough/Cold
My son (18mo) just had this. It was a cold/cough that literally last a month. At one point he had a 104 fever- tested neg for flu, strep, clear lungs. Took him in about 3 weeks later because he sounded so awful and was throwing up for all of the mucus... again, tested negative for everything and had clear lungs. Just this week he's starting to get back to normal.
We ran the humidifier and dowsed him in Vicks and I would give him a little bit of children's zyrtec to dry him up at night (he was often throwing up at night).

Me and mike have it too and now so does my mom. Thanks and same to you guys!
Thanks everyone. He wasn't coughing as bad today, so I'm hoping he's starting to feel better.
