Moms of 2 who had c-sections? Also stony brook question

When did you let the older sibling come see the baby?
DD is 2 if I remember correctly I was not in good shape I am just concerned about the kid seeing me like this and her possible climbing all over me, not sure if I should wait till day 2 but I really want her to see her brother ASAP

Also will stony brook let the immediate family come visit right away? Or are there stipulations?

Re: Moms of 2 who had c-sections? Also stony brook question

I delivered DD2 at Stony Brook via C-section. My parents were able to come right to my room to see the baby and I after I came from recovery. Honestly, I think they would've let any family members in. They weren't strict at all.

As far as your DD coming to see you, its a personal choice. I know its so exciting to for her to see the baby. Personally, I just decided to not bring DD1 to the hospital. She was 18 months at the time and I was worried that she'd be touching everything at the hospital (germs) and that it would actually make it worse for her to see me for a short amount of time, and then have to leave. I delivered on a Friday and asked to be discharged early to get home to her. I left Sunday morning. It was hard to not see her but I think it would've been harder on the both of us if she came up. When we came home I was in better shape and it was nice for them to meet at home. If she were a bit older, I might have let her come up. Good luck!

If you are in rough shape, maybe someone can bring your DD and she can see from the nursery until you're feeling a little better? They can just tell your DD you are sleeping.

I wasn't in rough shape with either of my c sections so Ds came as soon as he was able to (I delivered at 11 and my mother got him off the bus and came to the hospital around 3).

Not at Stony Brook, but my 2nd C-section DS1 came into the room as soon as they wheeled me in there.
I had the sched c in the morning. My parents and IL's watched DS1 so I'm sure he was VERY spoiled. They came to the hospital close to my surgery time and waited in the waiting area. They kept him busy playing with him and from what I heard he loved going up and down the escalator (he was 2 at the time).
As soon as I got out of recovery and was wheeled to my room all the parents and DS followed. They stayed in the room about an hour or so then one set took him out to lunch and for nap and another stayed.
He came and visited each day. We had lots of visitors so he was spoiled from family and friends with toys and games. I felt fine the entire time. MUCH different than when I had DS1. Sched C was a breeze. Recovery was a lot better.

My dd was 19 months when my second dd was born. She was in the waiting room with our family while I was having my csec. She was supposed to come into the l&d room after my section was over to see the baby. Unfortunately I was extremely sick during and after the operation so the Dr. Wouldn't let anyone in. I was so sad. She saw me about 3 hours later but didn't meet her new sister to the next day because she was behind the glass.

My 2.5 year old did not come to the hostpital at all. We were on the fence about it but then DD2 was in the nicu so she wouldn't have been able to meet her anyway. As far as seeing me I just thought it would be too hard between her not being able to climb on me and having to leave without me so we decided not to have her come. DH went home every afternoon to see her and we talked on the phone every day.

I was at SB and things we different bc we were dealing with the nicu but I delivered at 130 am and my mom came around 3:30 to bring me a few things and DH was able to take her down to see the baby.

I was in AWFUL shape post C-section but my DD was at the hospital all day with us so she did see me after I was moved to my room. She wasn't upset or freaked out by me being in bad shape but she was also 4.5 yrs old at the time too so she was old enough to understand a lot. I was happy to see her after my C-section, I felt so awful that it was nice to get to hug her and kiss her, it made me feel better.

ETA - I wasn't at SB, I delivered at St. Charles. Chat Icon

Didn't deliver at Stony Brook, but I didn't see my DC until the next day. I never made it to my scheduled csection date so it was more of an emergency csection since I went into labor. My DD was born at 2:40pm and I was in recovery until like 6pm and DD was in the NICU. They didn't see her until she came home 9 days later. They did come and visit(grandma and poppa brought them) the next day. I was still hooked to a catheter and on an IV so there was quick hugs and kisses ( they were afraid it will hurt). When I have this baby my youngest will be 22/23 months. I'm not sure how she will react but I'm sure DH will make sure she doesn't jump on me. I hope to see her right away and this baby doesn't have to go to the NICU so he/she will meet their siblings right away.

I delivered around lunchtime and DC1 didn't come visit until the next day when I was already able to walk around. They would have let dc come visit that day, but I wanted to have the extra time.

I was actually in pretty good shape after my csection. My face however, got super swollen and I was practically unrecognizable! It scared me to see so I am concerned if that happens again it will terrify DS. I may wait several hours after the baby is born for him to visit if I have another Csection so I can relax a bit and hopefully any swelling will go down.

Re: Moms of 2 who had c-sections? Also stony brook question

I had really good cs both times. But I didnt want DS to see me confined to the bed. And with #2 I didnt deliver until 8:30pm due to delays. So I had all my tubes and such taken out 8am the next day, and DS came around noon to see me. I couldnt really hold him but I was mobile and thats what I wanted him to see.
