Moms who had c-sections at Stony Brook...please come in.
Just a few questions.
How long after your section were you able to have visitors besides DH?
Could visitors see the baby without necessarily seeing you?
How many nights did you stay?
If you had another DC already, when were they allowed to visit?
TIA

Re: Moms who had c-sections at Stony Brook...please come in.
I had my c-section at 10:30. I was passed out for hours afterwards ( but had been in active labor before this for over 2 days, pushed for 4 hours, and then had the c-section). I made it into my room around 2:00pm which is the time visiting hours start, and people started coming in right away. The grandparents did see the baby in the nursery before this.
You can leave the baby in the nursery and visitors can look at the baby through the window. But there is nothing to stop them from going into your room.
I stayed 3 nights and wanted to stay a 4th. It took me a while to be able to get up and sit down unassisted. But it wasn't a scheduled c-section. My sister was up and about the same day after her scheduled c-section.

How long after your section were you able to have visitors besides DH? As soon as I was out of recovery and in my own room I was allowed to have visitors. You had to be able to lift up your legs and butt to be able to get out of recovery.
Could visitors see the baby without necessarily seeing you? My DS was taken to the NICU so he could only have visitors if DH or I went with them. SO technically they could see DS with DH and not see me.
With Chelsea they just waited until I was out of recovery and in my own room.
How many nights did you stay?
I was there Tuesday to Saturday. I stayed the extra day even though they said I could go home on Friday. DS had just come out of the NICU the night before and was circumcised that morning. I was nervous about taking him home that soon. Plus I knew Chelsea would be all over me and I was still in a lot of pain.
If you had another DC already, when were they allowed to visit?
Yes Chelsea was allowed to visit. My parents brought her up to the hospital twice.
I am so excited for you Lisa!!! Can't wait to see pictures of your little man!

Re: Moms who had c-sections at Stony Brook...please come in.
How long after your section were you able to have visitors besides DH? I had DD at 5:40pm. It was an emergency section and I was exhausted..By the time I got out of recovery it was almost 11:00pm.
Could visitors see the baby without necessarily seeing you? Since our parents were downstairs waiting my parents were able to come up escorted by my DH to view the baby in the nursery.
How many nights did you stay? I was there for 5 nights but it was because I had very high blood pressure and needed 2 blood transfusions.
If you have a scheduled section iam sure its going to go more smoothly than us emergency sections. You wont be nearly as exhausted as those who went through labor for hours. My close family came the next day and everyone else the second day, only because I was in horrible pain and dizzy. My next baby will be a scheduled C-section and Iam sure I will have a better experience.
Good Luck!!!

Re: Moms who had c-sections at Stony Brook...please come in.
Thanks ladies.
Just trying to get an idea of what to expect. I don't want my family to be sitting around for no reason.
If visiting starts at 2 pm....then I guess they could still see the baby in the nursery if I'm still in recovery? But the hospital won't let them near the baby until I'm in my room I'm assuming?

I think it depends on the nurses....the website always has such 'strict rules' but they were sooooo relaxed.
Could visitors see the baby without necessarily seeing you?
Yes, but they had to be accompanied by DH at all times. They don't let anyone on the nursery floor if they don't have a wristlet.
How many nights did you stay? 3? I went home a day earlier.
If you had another DC already, when were they allowed to visit? I'm not sure.
**I had a wonderful experience at SB. I remember the nurses names and everything. It was great.

- Immediately after I was in a room... Actually with DS #1- my IL's were in the room before I was!
-They could walk past the window of the nursery, but the only time they'd see the baby OUT of the nursery is if I had him with me.
-3 nights.... couldve stayed 4, but I couldnt wait to go home!
- As soon as I got into my room, DH called my IL's and asked them to bring up Rj... he was there in about 30 min.
ETA- I think visiting hours are from 2-8... but they NEVER kicked out DH (and he spent the night when DS#1 was born) and actually never kicked out my visitors who lingered one night beyond 8pm when DS#2 was born.

Re: Moms who had c-sections at Stony Brook...please come in.
I had an emergency Csec early in the am (DD was born at 451)
The details are fuzzy but I know my family was able to see DD when they wheeled her to the nursery in the isolette bc the nurse "broke the rules" and wheeled her through the main lobby.
I passed out in recovery for a while and when they brought me to my room I guess it was about 9am....My mom and mother in law wanted to see me and were allowed....DD was getting all checked out still in the nursery.
Then they left and came back at around 2 when the reg hours started.
