9 month food question
My 9 month old DD has been eating purees for 2 months. Fruit in the morning, Veggie at night. The last 2 weeks or so she is refusing them. She will clamp her mouth shut so tight and refuse to eat. If we make a game out of it, or say ahh or anything she just refuses to eat. I try waiting until she is maybe hungrier, we tried with my husband feeding her, and grandma and nothing is working all of a sudden. Anyone else experience this? Should I try cutting back her formula even tho for the 2 months she was doing the same bottle with 2 purees. I am at a loss. Instead of eating more, she is eating less and I am wasting a ton of baby food!

Re: 9 month food question
My daughter stopped eating purees around 10 months. I wouldn't cut her formula. The baby food is just for practice at this age. They need breast milk or formula for nutrition, nothing else.

Did you start with table food when she refused the purees? We tried banana and puffs and she wouldn't take those either lol

Don't cut her formula, that's more important.
Maybe stop food for a while and start again in a week or 2.

Thanks so much for the advice girls. I won't cut any of the formula and maybe we will take a break from the purees and try with the table food again soon.

What real foods did you girls start with? I tried puffs with her and she wasn't interested. Should I start with carrots or pasta maybe?

Honestly anything. We did baby led weaning so DD has been eating table food since 6 months. We started with sweet potatoes, apples, steamed carrots, steamed green beans, etc.
She loves chicken, bread, meatballs, carrot sticks. She's obsessed with puffs but I try not to give them until after she eats real food. Now I give her whatever were eating.
We have given purees and she was liking them for a bit but a few weeks ago, shortly after she turned 11 months, she started refusing them if she saw we were eating table food. So now we don't even bother. She doesn't eat every meal and eats very little when she does.

9 month food question
DS is almost 10 months. At 8 months, we introduced table foods since he was starting to refuse jarred foods. . DS loves cheese, yogurt, bananas, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, eggs, pancakes, French toast, Cheerios, grilled cheese, etc. I just give him whatever we are having at this point. DS still has a veggie purée (stage 2 or 3) with dinner.
ETA: DS loves yogurt melts but I only let him have them as an after dinner snack.

Re: 9 month food question
Is she teething? When my DD would go through a bad teething period she would go through a "hunger strike" bc her gums would hurt she didn't want to eat. IF that's not the issue, I would ask the ped what they recommend. Maybe mix the fruit puree with rice cereal, sometimes they don't like the taste by itself.

Dd is 7 months. We do purees, but small table foods also cut into tiny pieces-anything that she has had purees of..banana, carrot, sweet potato, squash, etc. she's also had puffs and is obsessed, but I feel like they're so processed. That being said, she is much better at feeding herself puffs than real food

Re: 9 month food question
DD refused purees, pretty much from when we introduced them. By 9 mos., she was definitely taking some table foods - lightly mashed banana or avocado, Cheerios soaked in milk or water and cut in half, even cut up pieces of poached chicken or soft veggies from soups. She gave up her afternoon bottle around 9 months as well, and was down to 4 bottles/day (soon after, went down to 3). I'd say formula was still her main source of food though. Then again, dd was maybe 14 pounds at that age, so maybe she's not the best model! Mealtime always equalled battle time, until she was nearly two, but she never starved and now eats almost anything.

I would start table food. If she is not wanting purees I would just move on tot he next step. Keep formula at a constant as much as possible.

At daycare today for the first time ever she also refused to eat the fruit puree which she never does and the teacher remarked that her upper gums are so swollen and it looks like 2 or 3 teeth are coming through so maybe she is just miserable.
We tried cucumber tonight b/c we got stuck in traffic and home really late and I didnt have time for much else. She wasn't interested at all but I will keep trying. We are going to try steamed carrots tomorrow and hope soon she will get the hang of it. Thanks again girls!!

This is what happened with my DS also . He had baby food at the beginning and then went right to table food. We didn't give the purees for a long time.

Re: 9 month food question
When DD was teething that bad and refused foods the doctor told us to give her whatever she would eat and for her it was rice cereal or oatmeal. Maybe hold off on table foods being that she is in this much pain it may not be the best time to start something that she will just reject. Give her what she will eat so she is getting something in her belly.
