All-Inclusives: Travel Agent or By Yourself?
My DH and I are looking to book our first all-inclusive 10 year anniversary/honeymoon trip for December.
Is this something we should do by ourselves online or use a travel agent?
Pros? Cons?
I've never used an agent before.

Using a travel agent doesn't cost anything, and they often have perks and upgrades you can't get on the internet! In addition, having a human contact is always comforting. If you're away and you need to talk to someone, they're always there!

I've used cheapcaribbean.com a few times - but always wind up calling them and talking to someone live to actually book. They have always been extremely helpful.

All-Inclusives: Travel Agent or By Yourself?
I always search out the best prices online with what I'm looking for and have the travel agent match it. It maybe more work but it's my money and I want to know that I'm getting the best price not what's shown to me

I agree, and 99% of the time we can match or beat anything you find online.
Many resorts have managers onsite who are only there as TA liaisons. That's their job. They are there to check on my guests and make sure everything is going smoothly for them, set up something special or offer solutions. Guests who book direct or through an online site don't have that contact. So if you book with a TA you often have the agent, the agency, the agent's consortium, their general contact in the chain, and that onsite manager all as your resources.
Also, I don't often book direct. I know which tour operatoe to book through to get you a perk, to get you a 'no walk" guarantee, etc

We booked through Costco. It included transfers and a Costco gift card and was a lower price than booking direct through resort.

I've never used a travel agent, I enjoy booking everything myself. Cheapcarribean.com usually has the best deals for AI.

CheapCaribbean and Costco ARE travel agents in this instance, but you don't get the personal support of a live person who is your advocate.

Re: All-Inclusives: Travel Agent or By Yourself?
I price out the trips using kayak.com and checking sites like expedia, orbitz, apple, hotels, cheap Caribbean, etc. Also, I usually tell a travel agent the prices I am seeing to see if they can match it or do better, but in my experiences they have not been able to. I have mostly booked on hotels.com and orbitz. They have had the cheapest prices when I have booked.
