If You did Homemade Baby Food

What is/was your 10-12 month old eating? I need ideas. I'm waiting on dairy til 12 months bc he reacted to it in my diet (EBF) when he was an infant.

Re: If You did Homemade Baby Food

I do mostly homemade baby food. My DS is 9 months and I am starting to feed him more thicker solids. He has pieces of avocado, banana, steamed apples steamed sweet potatoes, steamed pears, steamed carrots, pastina. He has the applegate chicken and turkey breast. ETA: my ds has a milk protein allergy too so it is kinda hard! I am actually going to buy the earths best meatballs today and try them!

Re: If You did Homemade Baby Food

We did baby food and used the magic bullet for both of my kids. With my first, we did baby food for a lot longer. With my second, we started with very small pieces of food around 5-6 months. I also put some of the food in a bullet if the consistently was to big for him. We never really stayed with the baby food for that long with either child.

But, I did the following:

any softened steamed cut up veggie- mashed carrots with chicken broth, peas mashed, potato, sweet potato and squash. I also did soft cheese such as mozzarella, in very small pieces, bread, etc.

Hope that helps! I also did fruit, pears, mashed, apples in the bullet, mashed banana with avocado which he loved.

Good luck-there are some great sites out there as well!

Thanks for the ideas. He's good with purees, but not into the table foods I've offered, except for Cheerios, avocado and banana chunks.

I'm adding lentils & quinoa to my list! My Dd loved them! I feel like I was so much more on top of this with her, and this time I can't remember anything I did last time.

I would keep trying all the table food even if he didn't like it the first time. Table food can take some time since they were used to purees.

Pork, turkey, chicken, peas, carrots, string beans, pasta, squash, potatoes, sweet potatoes, blue berries, spinach, oatmeal-- I basically give her what ever we are eating- I cut the food into small pieces rather the purée it-dd prefers it that way.

DD wasn't big on table food either. She did love pastina mixed with pureed butternut squash. She also liked waffles, pancakes, crackers. I found she enjoyed having bigger pieces and taking bites rather than being given tiny pieces so I just watched her and she always did fine. I would cut a waffle into strips, give her whole crackers, raviolis, or chicken strips and she loved getting to hold things like that. She also has always loved the earth's best mini meatballs someone mentioned. My other trick was putting the food on a fork and handing it to her to feed herself. She would eat foods that way that she wouldn't otherwise eat. I wish I could get her to use a fork now as much as I did when she was 10 months old!

Thanks!! I'm going to try this with the bigger pieces, that's how he likes the banana and avocado. And he will also eat most things offered to him on a fork or spoon, but If I put broccoli in front of him, he plays with it, and only a few pieces go in his mouth. Haha.

Re: If You did Homemade Baby Food

At that point, I definitely was giving her table food cut up really small. Things like chicken soup or beef stew were big hits and it was great that meat and veggies were all together! She got basically whatever we ate. She was also off dairy til 12 mos.
