what did you hate ?? I have been there (I used to work at a camp) and it was one of my favorite trips-- but I'm basing it on just the kids loving it- I didn't actually get to walk around much. The aquarium is 2.5x more expensive. Is the game farm that bad that it's worth that difference ?

I really liked the game farm when visiting. It's different than an aquarium... But I never found it dirty.
Imo, the big negative is if it rains, will the LI animal farm be pleasant to visit? Otherwise, I'd book there.

I am not a fan of the game farm. I thought it was just gross and dirty when we went several years ago. I would go for the Aquarium. It's a nice party.

What about the Animal Farm Petting Zoo? Do they do parties? We went for my DDs 2nd birthday - just a group - and we loved it.

Thanks. She loves animals so I'd prefer the farm and they offer rain dates.
My only worry was people saying it's dirty- so hearing that it's not made up my mind.

I totally agree. I thought the game farm was an overgrown, run down piece of cr@p. I really HATED it and would never go back. I think the aquarium is much nicer, I'd rather pay a little more and have the party there.

Birthday Party @ Long Island Game Farm
Another question for those who disliked it.. are you comparing it to other farms or the aquarium?? I'd expect an aquarium to be 100 times cleaner than an outdoor farm setting.. My friend is telling me she thinks it's filthy but she also thinks White Post Farms is filthy which I was just at and thought was fine for what it is (a farm) Sorry.. just really trying to get a good idea bc she LOVES animals and would like it more than the aquarium and there is a significant price difference so I'd like that more than paying for the aquarium- but I would hate to have people come and feel like it was filthy

I'm not comparing it to anything actually, although I have been to much nicer zoos.
That being said though, my experience was that is was EXTREMELY outdated (it looks EXACTLY like it did back in the 70's when my parents took me there), it was run-down and didn't look well maintained, and it was SO boring. For what they charged I felt like it didn't have much to offer. We lasted *maybe* 2 hrs and I wanted to get out of there.
I just really didn't like it, I honestly expected a better experience.

The animal farm was AWESOME. I heard it was much better than the game farm so we went there and although I can't compare b/c I haven't been to the game farm since I was a kid.... we had a BLAST.

White Post Farms is 1,000 times nicer and cleaner than the Game Farm. I don't typically decline parties based on the location, but if we received an invite for the Game Farm, we would decline. It's outdated, not many animals, the ones there just looked lethargic and not active to me. I remember the small "rides" they had were just gross.

I'm going to look into this.. bc I am getting a lot of feedback saying the aquarium would be boring for our guests age (mostly 2-3 year olds)
Were you able to bring food in there? I know you just went in as a group.. Was there somewhere local you got together before/after? I am not from the area so I've never seen or even heard of this before

I don't know who is giving you that feedback, but 2-3 year olds are the target age for the aquarium. I used to take my daughter once a week at that age and she LOVED it!

ITA! We took our DD when she was that age too and she LOVED it! as well!! We took our DS last summer for the first time and he wasn't even 1.5 yrs old yet and he loved it!! He enjoyed looking at all the fish and he loved the sea lion show!
I've never met a kid, even really young ones, that don't love staring at brightly colored fish in a tank. I think an aquarium party would be a hit with any kid!!

Birthday Party @ Long Island Game Farm
That's what I thought. My DD enjoyed it, but I was at lunch talking to 3 coworkers and all 3 said they don't like the aquarium that it's overpriced and their kids run through it.. My DD loves animals so I know she'd prefer somewhere she can physically touch and feed animals... I am receiving such mixed feedback on everything.. I thought getting opinions would make it easier- but not at all... made it much more difficult.. I basically offended a coworker by asking if the game farm was dirty (bc that's what I heard) bc she has had both her kids parties there.. after reading here I was leaning to the aquarium then I'm hearing it's boring.. and she said she wouldn't take her kids there personally, that it's a long drive and not worth it.. I think I'm about to save the money and go on a family trip for the weekend for her bday instead LOL

Re: Birthday Party @ Long Island Game Farm
I didn't find the Game Farm "dirty" and I'm pretty Type-A about that stuff. Certain places, especially when animals are involved, you kind of expect it to look a certain way and yeah, sometimes that way is a little "RUSTIC". It's never going to be sparkly clean because it's outside, there are animals, animals eat, animals poop, etc.
I like the Game Farm. I have been there many times - I'm an animal person, so is my son. I like that I can touch and feed them. I also grew up riding horses, being on farms, camping, etc. I'm a glam-girl now but I mean, I have been exposed to farm life. The Aquarium is nice but if you want HANDS ON and TOUCHING it's not really the ideal place for that. They have only a few "touch tanks". It's not the same thing if you are an animal person, like I am, my son is, etc.
I would say you'd be fine with the Game Farm. The giraffe is my favorite. He's so sweet and lets you feed him. I like the baby goats and such as well with the bottle feeding. They also have pony rides.
If you are interested in another option that is "hands on" and has animals - check out White Post Farms. They are in Melville. We went to a birthday party there and it was wonderful.
My son is an animal lover and we did an in-home party in the yard and had "Lollipop Pony Party" Rentals come with a whole petting zoo. Pics in album.

Re: Birthday Party @ Long Island Game Farm
For 2-3 year olds, either would work. From experience, 3 is the ideal starting age for a petting zoo party for most kids (before then, some are scared).
Personally, I'd do the game farm. Went 2 years ago. Loved the giraffe & deer & goats. They had baby ducklings that were adorable!
I'd save an aquarium party for an age that kids are able to follow along on a tour.
Btw: I had a white post party & a pony ride party (at a riding ring) and have heard both times from kids mostly and guests (kids tend to say things that their parents say) that it was "dirty". That's animals for you: they poop and poop smells. My kids had a BLAST.
You have to do the party for YOUR child.

I agree, We went to a party there and I was disappointed, the whole place seemed run down, especially the kidde rides. I won't be going back.
The queens county animal farm has parties and ive heard good things but that's very far from you

Suffolk County farm at Yaphank does parties. No experience, but worth checking out, and since it's normally free, I'm sure the parties are reasonable.

I always loved the game farm until the last time I went. The place was infested with flies....the ones that bite. You could tell they hadn't cleaned up the animal poop in a while because the flies were seriously everywhere....even in the bathroom & concession stand.
We've been to a bunch of parties at White Post....kids loved it.

They have picnic tables set up - we didn't bring food in but we could have.
Afterwards, we went to Baiting Hollow vineyards (kids and all) and set up lunch.
