Give me an honest answer .. Party favors..

Sorry to hijack your thread but this has me thinking about my DD's party. I am having it at a place where they are going to be stuffing their own stuffed animal and picking out an outfit. Do I need to give out favors? If I did, it would be some candy - but I feel like the stuffed animal is the favor.

My niece's birthday party was at a place where the kids stuffed their own animal and that was their favor, so I think that alone is fine.

To the OP, I'm not really too crazy about favors but can understand that kids look forward to it so I would just do something small. Sometimes DS will get a favor bag from one of his classmates that had a birthday party in school and most of it I end up tossing. But he is still young enough not to really care.

Great article!
Things get so ridiculous with the "expectations" of kids.

Yes, yes a million times yes!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I despise goodie bags. My kid just brings in a bunch of crap that I throw out or it's more candy that I don't want her to eat. I generally just give out a nicely decorated cookie, but I wish I could do away with that too.

I don't care for them, but since my boys are used to bringing something home they expect it. It's also a good way to leave without any fights. LOL! When my boys are having so much fun they don't like leaving. Not like there's tantrums or craziness, but the goody bag is a good distraction and they look forward to going in the car to see what they got.

If you are making something that's part of the party then I don't think there's any need to add something in addition to what they're bringing home. If they have a build a bear or made chocolate then that's perfect.

I am a big fan of one favor they can use. Love Wallmart (online) or Five Below. I've done a book, water shooter, kids towel, shovel and pail, a puzzle, etc. No candies, nothing small or crap. It's always been $5 or less. I did spend the most on the towel, but there weren't a ton of kids and it was a 1st bday party.

yes but also you can easily get something cheap. For DS's this year I got cowboy hats and sheriff badges (it was a Nunleys ) so I figured cowboy theme lol It was like $25 bucks for all that . I used Oriental Trading.

I absolutely would not give out a favor at a build a bear party. If parents complain, oh well!

Nope and we didn't for my daughter's birthday. We went swimming and it's around the holidays so who really needs some more gifts? I think if you can find something to give that is part of the party then sure but a must no. Like a summer bug theme party would be super cute with bug nets and mason jars to catch fire flies and add to the theme, but a swimming party or baking party nope. The "favor" is the experience in my opinion.

to me, if they are decorating a cookie, I would put the cookie in a cellophane baggie and call that the favor.

personally, I rather save my money than buy junk. when I make goody bags, I usually do an edible snack like a squeezy and i'll do a mini play dough and a sticker. I hate those plastic junky things.

Kids like getting goody bags but I don't think they will be sore about not getting one. its not like they are going to talk crap in the car ride home and say that was a lame party b.c they didn't get goody bags.
skip it! save your money!

No.
Totally unnecessary.

I throw them right into the garbage when we get them,(cups with ? Bpa, bubble lotion that doesn't work, candy)

Have not given them out yet & never heard a kid complain.

I'd def say, take the time, $ and effort & put it into the party.

I thought bpa was only an issue when something is heated or like repeatedly going in the mouth (like a nipple or sippy spout) which is kind of similar to being heated. I always use those party cups to let my kids walk around with crackers etc. Should I get rid of them? I'm so careful with bpa, we even use mostly glass, but I never considered using those cups for snacks.

The kids look for it. That's why, I think, they are kind of a must.

I give something very small. This time a plastic bag in the theme with a pencil, tattoo, ring pop, and 2 airheads. It cost me like $1 a bag. If the parents don't want the candy they can throw it out, but I don't think I give an excessive amount. I love to whip out something like a ring pop to try and bribe my kids out of the playground etc. if for whatever reason they are being difficult that day.
