Does anyone's dc get speech (only) through cpse or if your are a speech therapist

My ds is 4 I have concerns about his speech (mostly articulation). His preschool teacher suggested I call my district.
They are sending me paperwork to fill out.

A few questions
1. How long is the process?
2. Do they do other evaluations as well?
3 is it hard to qualify for speech for articulation at 4.
4. If he doesn't qualify and I want to take him privately can I go through insurance?

Thanks so much!

The district has 60 days from the day you sign consent to have the CPSE meeting and start services. Typically the evaluations are completed within 30 days. They always do the psychological as well, which is an IQ test and an interview/information about the child's overall skills. Also a classroom observation is part of the process. The child has to have a certain score on the speech eval to qualify for articulation. It's not necessarily easy or hard to qualify, but the child has to have a certain score. As long as your insurance covers speech therapy you can take him privatey if he does not qualify through the CPSE.

DS gets speech for articulation. He is actually advanced in his language in general. He barely qualifies. He started when he was 3. When you go in for the meeting, you need to emphasize how the articulation problem affects his every day life. For me, no one but myself and immediate family could really understand DS. So he was able to get services because of that. He can say words relatively well by themselves. But in sentences everything jumbles.
