Looking for IUD opponions & experiences

I think I asked a couple years ago when I was considering getting one but now I don't remember what the responses were.
I really want to get off the pill but I don't want another baby.

Re: Looking for IUD opponions & experiences

I got the Mirena a little over 6 weeks ago and so far I love it. It was uncomfortable for about a minute when they inserted it, but that was it. I felt crampy the rest of the day but nothing horrible. I have had minor spotting (nothing more than a liner needed) since and nothing in terms of a period. The doctor said it's likely that is all I will have since the first 6 weeks tend to be the worst in terms of spotting, etc. I'm not sure how long term it is for me (I may want to TTC this summer) but I like it so far.

I have a paraguard IUD. I love it. After having my first one inserted I had very heavy periods for the first few months then I generally had cycles that lasted 3-4 days with only one day of heavy flow- usually day 2. I had my first one removed to TTC- at 10 weeks post partum I had another paraguard IUD inserted and since my cycle had not returned yet I did not have any issues with heavy bleeding. My cycles have returned and have a similar patten to before I had my dd.

I have Mirena... I like it but I don't LOVE it, mostly because I had the expectation that my period would all but stop a few months in. I'm 5 months into this and have spotting here and there and 3-4 day periods that don't seem to follow any kind of pattern which is annoying. My old period used to be like clockwork.

But I like not having to take a pill and being set for 5 years...

I'm doing the paragard next month. I'm trying to stay away from hormones or I would have gone with Mirena.

I had the mirena removed after 6 months. It was causing me to have pregnancy-like symptoms. Nausea, bloating, fatigue. I didn't realize that was a possibility, but as soon as it came out I felt better.

I have the Mirena and am happy with it. Right after having it put in, I was VERY sick...debilitating headache for 2 days, with resolved. Did have light periods for a few months; now after 12 months, still have occasional spotting, but well worth it. My insurance did not pay a dime for it, so totally out of pocket, and to me...money well spent.

I have the Mirena.. Huge fan. I never was a heavy bleeder before so I can't IMAGINE paraguard.. I also never had cramps or real PMS so this seemed best. Pre kiddo I never knew when I was going to have my period unless I remembered to mark my calendar when I was having one. If I forgot (and I did plenty) I had those OH sh!t heart attack moments of "Am I late?" ugh! Oh those were the days! LOL

This is my 5th year with the Mirena. I am 'upgrading' to the Skyla (by Mirena) it is 'smaller' and less obtrusive so its easier to get in and out (The doc said). Since its profile is smaller it doesn't push up against the walls as much, he said. Its also less years (only 3). I won't have this done until Oct tho.

I'm still a little torn. I'd rather have 5yrs since I want no other children ever again! But then again smaller seems better in a way?

I'm a fan because I haven't had a period since April 2011 (got it in Oct 2010). Id rather never have them again frankly. My intent is to stick with this until menopause when they end all together. No other birth control option provides a total lack of periods. Although NO form of Birth Control guarantees this at all. I'm a small percentage of those who have this side benefit. Most just reduce to spotting I hear.

I still don't get cramps or mood swings. Still have acne like before. LOL If you're thinking of the IUD just keeping the knowledge out there about the Skyla. Its been out a bit but my doc waited until it was more used. Now he says 80% of his Mirena users have switched over.

Me, I'm still researching it
