Do you get feedback from your pre-schooler's teachers?
I'm a bit disappointed with my son's preschool... I don't ever hear anything about my son. EVER. I just feel the teachers, especially the main one, are not that "engaged"... they seem very jaded and unmotivated.
We've only had one school night for parents - and I didn't even get any feedback from them then.
They just don't seem that "into" it. I hate that this is his first school experience. I expected so much more. I thought it would be more special, somehow.
I keep thinking I'm going to say something, but I think this is just "them". I can't imagine much will change.
Any advice?

Do you get feedback from your pre-schooler's teachers?
At my DD's school the teacher comes out a few minutes before dismissal and tells us what they did that day, shows us the books they read and an example of the craft. She doesn't talk about specific children, but if you ever want to know anything about your child you can talk to her before or after class. They also have a parent/teacher conference once during the year to discuss their progress.

My son is in a daycare preschool and a regular preschool (we got UPK).
At daycare - we get reports, etc. And the teachers are there early in the morning to chat about concerns, etc.
For the regular preschool - I don't go there often but, when I do they always give me reports as to how he is doing when we do go there. Since he's part of the NYS Pre K Program, he is subject to periodic reviews so they send me copies of those as well.

I have 3 in school. I get to talk to the teachers everyday when I pick them up but it is usually crazy getting the kids all packed up so I really don't ask too much. If I had a concern I am certain I could call to discuss anything. We have 2 parent teacher conferences a year.

Re: Do you get feedback from your pre-schooler's teachers?
I agree with the OP. I have my DD in a preschool (a 3 yr old class), part-time, two days a week and I don't hear ANYTHING. The first month they had a sheet in their folder that gave them a color rating for the day based on behavior (green/yellow/red) and then it abruptly stopped. No idea why that stopped but I haven't gotten any feedback on my DD since. I'm not worried, she's a good kid, but I'd love to know more about how she's doing from a teacher's point of view. I don't want to be a turd and bring this up, though... I guess I'll assume no news is good news?

Parent teacher twice a year but i get daily feedback from both her teachers. They are motivated and most of all engaged. I have had a wonderful experience with them. They make you feel like they really care about your child. Like family. My dd talks about how she cant wait to.see her teachers.
Im sorry your not having a positive experience. You should be happy about this time. It is special.
Eta: i also get a daily activity sheet detailing what they did.

DS is in daycare but in the 3's room so it is run like preschool. There is a white board in the hallway outside the classroom and the teachers update it daily with the theme, letter, number, color, circle time activities, art projects, upcoming events, etc. Other than that, unless DS had a difficult day (which is rare- maybe once a month), it is simply hello in the morning and have a good night when I pick up. I know that if something needed to be mentioned they would tell me.

Re: Do you get feedback from your pre-schooler's teachers?
I go in everyday to drop off. I always chit chat with dd teacher. She tells me things dd is doing or what the class is up to. We get a monthly letter about what is being taught for the month, books being read and tips we can practice at home to reinforce the concepts being taught. We also have conferences 2x a year to specifically talk about your own child. I love my dd school it actually makes me so sad that she will leave and head off to Kindergarden.

Same. I also get evaluations twice a year and daily a paper is send home with what she ate, bathroom activity, her nap and what she did. Also a place to say if they need me to bring anything in for her. The paper is helpful if I don't pick her up.

Same except we gave parent/teacher conferences twice.

Re: Do you get feedback from your pre-schooler's teachers?
As well as the report cards & conferences, we get a weekly email of what they will do that week.
This year, there is more info than last year. He's gone both years, 3 half days (by special arrangement).
We get projects in a folder at end of week. If they hang them in class, we get them a few weeks later.
DS started writing letters, so I get his letters weekly in. Bundle of papers, tracing paper & his paintings.
Op: if you have concerns, try to set up a meeting with the teacher.
Preschools are so different (and private ones have their own curriculum). Even though ours is a lot more $ than we would have liked, I have been so happy with what they have done. Will be sending my second child there too.

Re: Do you get feedback from your pre-schooler's teachers?
My DD is in pre-k and we get a lot of feedback. There are p/t conferences twice a year and report cards. Also, the teacher has a webpage where she summarizes what they are doing for that week academically, crafts, events etc. and posts pictures and videos. There is also daily feedback if you ask for it or have a question or concern. We are also free to email and the teacher is very responsive to email/calls as well.

Do you get feedback from your pre-schooler's teachers?
DS is in a 4 year old class- i'm a SAHM, so he just goes 3 AMs a week. we get a monthly calendar with what they'll be working on that month, and they each have a folder that sometimes info comes home in, too. its a small school, only 13 kids in his class- and the teacher is great, so she'll talk to me at drop off or pick up about anything. and i know she is opened to phone calls, too with anything that comes up. They're doing parent/teacher conferences next week- so that will be a good chance to sit down with her, too. i now they're busy so i don't expect them to tell me every little thing my kid did that day.... but i do think you have to feel like the teachers are approachable and opened to meeting with you if you want to. if theres no conferences or anything scheduled, i would set up a meeting to just check in with how he's doing...

We have a communication notebook that goes back and forth with the kids. Their teachers write anything they feel we need to know in there, and vice versa. My 3yo's teacher will often write a little note if he had a particularly good day, or to tell me something cute he did or something. In addition, both send home a notice every Monday letting us know what they will be working on that week: what letter they will be introducing, any new concepts, and how the letter/concepts will be carried out through specific activities. They get 2 report cards per year, we have a Back to School night in September, and parent/teacher conference in November.

Re: Do you get feedback from your pre-schooler's teachers?
Have you asked the teachers for a school email address to reach out to them with questions or concerns? Remember, this is your child and you're paying tuition so ask as many questions as you like!
