Meh.. a little discomfort but nothing too horrible. Just a bit of a pang and mostly I kept THINKING about it which made it way worse. It didn't bother me if I was distracted but sit and think and it would be annoying.

The actual insertion was pretty quick. I was more wound up about it than it really deserved. I was told vaginal was best as the cervix had stretched etc. I had a C/S and it was YEARS later when I got it.

This year I'm getting it removed and a new one put in and the doc says they've gotten even better since and he's going to give me some topical so its even easier because I said I felt a sharp but quick pain. He's so cool! LOL "You should have told me, its supposed to be totally painless"

It hurt like a B!@#$

I had to lay down afterwards because I was in so much pain. I had even taken advil before my appointment. I hear it's different for everyone though.

There was about 60 seconds of pain right when she inserted it and then that was it. i had some cramping for the next 24 hours but nothing painful. It doesn't compare to the awful pain I experienced when my OB tried to strip my membranes with #1.

I had horrible period cramping and felt like I was going to pass out. I hated it. But, it passed pretty quickly.

Which one are you getting?

Just a warning... I had Paragard in for three years, and I think it wreaked havoc on my body. I had really bad pains in my legs and thighs, which I never attributed to the Paragard until it was out. I was constantly exhausted, felt overwhelmingly depressed and hopeless. The day I took it out, I already felt better.

I blindly allowed the doctor to put the Paragard in me thinking it was the only choice for me. I can't believe how horrible it made me feel. Chat Icon I wish I had researched it more...

Insertion was nothing for me, honestly. But then again I am an IVF vet and have triplets so it takes a lot for anything to bother my uterus :) I will echo pp, though, I hated paragard!

They failed at putting it in! They said they could dilate me but I thought it wasn't worth it.

Like some of the others have said, it was a sharp but quick period-like pain. I did need to lie down for a few minutes afterwards bc I felt dizzy. But then I was fine.

I will agree that the paragard did it work out well for me. I didn't have pain or mood issues, but I got terribly long periods (I'm including days of spotting) that lasted on average ten days. Sometimes up to two full weeks. It sucked so bad, I just had mine removed.

I had an IUD prior to getting pregnant and the insertion was easy. It hurt for 30 seconds or so and that was it. It was actually more painful getting it after DD was born.
I have had no issues with my paraguard IUD--I had heavy periods the first few months after the first one was inserted.
