If you didn't do cry it out...

What sleep training method did you use?

My son is 10 1/2 months old and he used to sleep the night in his crib no problem. But for the past month he has been a complete nightmare!!

We tried to let him CIO but he just cried and cried for hours and hours no end in sight. He makes himself choke and it is just horrible. We cannot do CIO.

He wakes up multiple times a night and just cries until my husband or I hold him, then he is instantly back to sleep. Only will sleep in swing or in our arms.

We need a full nights sleep and I just don't know what else to do! Please help.

If you didn't do cry it out...

we just pushed through.. we slept in her room, her in ours. She'd sleep on the living room floor, or on a couch. I don't care where she slept as long as she slept. I didn't care where I slept as long as I slept.

We survived.

Sleep is VERY Important to us. We both work full time and in NYC I commuted to work early in SA we'd commute a little later but still had to get to work early. She went into daycare by 7am. It's not forever and no my kid didn't get spoiled or think she could sleep with us forever. She stopped that about 2-3y to the point that she HATES to sleep in our room under any circumstances! When she would pass out wherever, we'd try to move her to her room or frankly let her sleep where she was. living room floor? No problem, just as long as it was on top of a few piled blankets I'd sleep next to her on the floor.

I hate to say this, and I know you don't want to hear it, but when they are ready, they will do it.
DD was awful. From the time we brought here home she was up every 2 hours.
I was ready to die.
I wanted to run away for good.
She honestly did not sleep through the night until way after 6 months old.
But when she was ready, she just did it.
CIO didn't work
Nothing worked.
I truly feel it's a developmental thing.

But he's so much older. He's almost a year old and was formerly a good sleeper. Was sleeping through the night no problem. Idk what it could be that's keeping him up or what changed.

My husband is really the one at his wits end, he has to be at work at 4:30 am

I am so glad you posted this!
Ive posted before and ran out of options myself.

our son will be 9 months, and mommy and daddy are zombies

we tried cry it out a month ago and had no success- Our son will fall asleep on his own but wakes every 3-4 hours SCREAMING
we tried cry it out, and was a FAILURE, he also chocked screamed and was a nightmare-
Now we go in throw a paci in his mouth and rub him till he falls back asleep, but after a few hours he is up screaming some nights are uncontrollable and others is just a rub and hold

I am going to try chamomile tea, i will let you know how that works
I am desperate at well

I agree with this word for word.
My DS didn't sleep the night till he was about 10.5 months old. He was just a very hungry baby. He would go down by 8, then at around 2am would wake up screaming. I know lots of people will disagree, but I gave him a small bottle (like 4 oz) to hold him over for a few more hours. And it worked.
Sometimes they're just not ready.

Since you said your LO used to STTN, maybe he is teething?

If you didn't do cry it out...

Sleep patterns can change- my DD pediatrician reminds me that at every visit. The times my DD has had changes in her sleep patterns are when she is teething or when she has a cold. I use the pick up/ put down method. She wakes up, I comfort her, then put her down once she is calm and drowsy. When I go in to pick her up I keep the lights off. I pick her up and hug her and provide a few words of comfort and then I try not to talk to her or provide any "entertainment" occasionally I will nurse DD if I know she was distracted and did not eat well during the day. Last week DD had a bad cold and I had to sit by her crib holding her hand until she fell asleep a few times but once she was feeling better she did not look for me to hold her hand once she was in her crib.

Around that age my dd started waking and crying and was only okay I. My bed. So for a few weeks she spent a few hours in bed! Usually like 1-3, sometimes 3-normal waking time. Then she just grew out of it.

My DS was a great night time sleeper as an infant (always a horrible napper though). At 10 months, it all went downhill. Now DS is almost three and still does not STTN but it has gotten a lot better than what it was. I think ours is a very extreme case though so don't be alarmed... Just wanted to let you know I totally relate! We tried every method in the world too. I just think it's something they need to grow out of at their own pace.

If you didn't do cry it out...

It could be a sleep regression and/or teeth. Sometimes H sleeps amazingly and then she'll go through a spurt where she's up 1-2x a night, refuses to go down in the crib. We just keep rocking her, let her cry for maybe 5 mins before trying again.

Sometimes we just give in and have her sleep in our bed, which I don't really like (she's the only one who sleeps well in that scenario) but for a night or 2, it is what it is.

We also just pushed through. My DS (14mo) is a pretty good sleeper, but he definitely has gone through regressions. Since Christmas he has been all out of whack. He'll settle down again. We just power through. I know it sucks to be tired, but its really for just a short time. I don't believe in CIO, so I just push through.

Same as this. It can't last forever. But at 18 months mine is still up every few hours. I know I will miss the cuddles one day, so I just roll with it.

Have you tried giving ibuprofen at night to sleep? Is it possible that he is teething? I know for DD when she is teething her sleep is HORRIBLE. Ibuprofen definitely helps.

What do you mean by CIO? Did you just let him cry until he fell asleep?

We did the ferber method. We have to re-do it once in a while after she's been sick or teething and her sleep pattern is all off.

Works like a charm.

We did the same thing and it's so nice to hear someone feels the same way. We did what we felt was right for us. Like you, our daughter did not get spoiled and did not get into a bad habit. But yes there were nights we did put her in bed with us because my husband and I had an eArly morning and just needed some sleep. I think in the end people just have to do what works for them.

He just got his top two teeth in, so I have been giving Advil. It just doesn't help and he's up :(

He woke up at 4 this morning. My husband went to work and I just let him come in bed with me. He slept till 930, but I don't like bringing him in bed w me.
