essure v. tubal ligation
did you get one or the other and if so why?
I am 100% sure I am done having kids. I want to DH get a vasectomy but I doubt it will happen he is way to much of a baby with medical stuff and even if the recovery would be easy for him he would make it super hard
Either way I want to get my tubes tied just don't know which way to go. my dr actually told me they don't do tubal ligation anymore but I am not sure if I am ok with going the essure route so looking for opinions.

Re: essure v. tubal ligation
I haven't had one but I am very familiar with both of these procedures through work. I can tell you that any gyn is going to recommend the Essure. It's minimally invasive, there are almost no risks of the procedure and it's done in a matter of minutes. You don't need real sedation (many doctors do it right in their office and just hit you with a dose of valium) and it's done. The Essure device itself looks like the spring that you find in a clicky pen. It's small and flimsy looking. It's just deployed into the opening of where the uterus meets the tube. Three months later you will go for an HSG to ensure that it was properly placed, that tissue has grown over the device and that it is blocking the tube. Once that confirms proper placement, you are good to go.
The only "downside" to the procedure is that it is very permanent whereas a tubal ligation can be reversed.

I didn't realize that a tubal could be reversed.
I got a tubal at the same time as my c-section. If I didn't do it at the same time as the section then I would have had DH get snipped instead. So far I haven't had any negative effects and I'm very happy that I did it. If you're not already getting opened up then I wouldn't recommend getting a tubal. From what I understand the recovery is similar to a c-section and that's major surgery.

They can't do a tubal laproscopically? My OB told me it could be done laproscopically and minimally invasive.

this is my fear though I found out that even tubal isn't 100% gurantee nothing is
that's why I am leaning more tying my tubes AND trying to convince DH to get cut so at least the chances of me getting pregnant maybe more minimal

It definitely can be done by lap but it's still more invasive and has more risks than the Essure. The Essure is done basically by inserting the speculum and then advancing a hysteroscope through. Then they use a piece of equipment to deploy the Essure. There is no scarring at all and barely any recovery.

DH would be wearing condoms for the rest of his life. Or I'd just stop having sex. I'd just get some good sex toys!

Re: essure v. tubal ligation
I had a tubal in May during my c section. My doctor said she would never recommend it other than during a c section. I did have to sign a paper that it wasn't 100% effective and my dr said I had to make sure to track my periods because the risk of an ectopic is greater when you have a tubal.

essure v. tubal ligation
This whole tubal lapro being so dangerous is crazy to me. I had my tubal done lapro 6 months ago. I had a teeny tiny incision in by belly button and another on my C-section scar. I was in and out in 30 minutes. Hardly any recovery at all. I think I was down for a day or two at the most. No pain. It was so much easier than my C-section.
I thought about essure but my husband wasn't comfy with a foreign body being in me for years and year. He was concerned that there was not enough data on the long term effects.
Good luck with your decision, but really.. the lapro tubal was a cake walk.

I looked into Essure and to be honest, if you read up, a LOT of women have issues afterwards. It scared me to death. It's pretty much like you said, a foreign body left in your tubes for scar tissue to form around. I am not really comfortable with that. God knows the long term effects. And then what, can it be fixed? Probably not.
I have had lapro surgery before for gallbladder removal and like you said, cake walk. No scars. Quick recovery, barely took a pain killer. And that was removal of an organ.

this is what makes me nervous about Essure. i thought i also read you cant be allergic to nickel and i think i am because apparently that's what they use in cheap earing and every time i wear them my ears get red. I guess I will have to push my Dr on getting the tubal ligation and if she wont do it find another place that will.

You will definitely find one that will do it. My OB offered it to me. I trust him very much and I know I'd be fine with a tubal at his hands, should I ever had decided to go that route.
