Spinoff to Santa gift
My 4 year old wants everything he sees and basically circled everything in the TRU toy book. Well I am 100% done shopping. The gifts are wrapped and ready to go. We attended a breakfast with Santa yesterday and he told Santa he wanted ZoomerDino. I didn't get it! He has a lot if toys and games and his big gifts are a bike and an iPad. My DH might flip if I buy this dinosaur for $80. Is it terrible that he's not going to get it? I already spent well over $500.

Spinoff to Santa gift
I have been doing that too. Up until last week I kept adding. Today DD said there was something else she wanted and I explained to her that Santa can't bring everything on her list. And that since it's only a few days before christmas he won't have time to make another toy. She insisted I "text" him. God help me lol

Re: Spinoff to Santa gift
We got that too from our kids.
I went with a present they were consistently asking for, a present for them to share, and one I thought they would enjoy. Stuck with the budget.
IMO, not getting everything they want is important too.

Re: Spinoff to Santa gift
I've explained to my DD that although she asked for many, many things she has to understand that Santa can't bring her EVERY single thing on her list. Santa tries his best to make sure you get some toys that you asked for but he also will surprise you with other things too. I feel like giving her the heads up that you can't get it all for Xmas avoids any disappointment on Xmas morning. Usually though she's so excited about what she did get she doesn't really care about what's missing.

Spinoff to Santa gift
When DD was younger she asked for everything and changed her mind on what she wanted every week. She was always changing her "I have to have it" toy and it was driving us nuts trying to keep up with her lol. Now we tell her she can write down 2 or 3 toys in her letter to Santa that she really wants and the rest will be a surprise. We also tell her that Santa can't always get everything we want and if you don't get it for Christmas, she may get it for a a different holiday or birthday.

I do pretty much this. I say that Santa will use her list as a guide, but he can't get her everything she asks for since he has so many children to get toys for. She is fine with it. By Xmas morning she forgot half of what she has been asking for daily since October anyway!

Re: Spinoff to Santa gift
If it wasn't on the letter that got mailed, it *Might* come from Mommy and Daddy but most likely won't be coming this late in the game. Thankfully only 4 things were on the letter so I had some wiggle room. Damn commercials, will be the death of me, I swear!

Spinoff to Santa gift
I have this problem with my 4 year old. We wrote letters to santa with the kids a couple of weeks ago and in her list was a talking doc mcstuffins and Lambie toy and all the princesses. Well of course we got those 2 things for her and then last week we were in target and she saw some tinkerbell thing they had a big display of. The kid goes to bed and wakes up asking to ask santa for it. I told her it's a little late and he's probably already started working on her presents so I don't know if he'll be able to bring that for you. She is still I sitting on asking for it. She has gift cards to target that she got for her bday a few weeks ago. I told her if santa can't bring it for you we'll use up your gift cards for it. Her response....."ok mom but santa is magical and I hope he can bring it!" Really?!?!? I'm not buying it now.....I hope she sees all that she did get and kind of forgets that santa didn't bring it for her.

Re: Spinoff to Santa gift
I actually think it's a good lesson in you don't get everything you ask for. DD is the same, wants everything she sees. I made sure she's getting a few of the big items that she's mentioned over and over but I'm not feeling bad at all that she isn't getting everything. I tell her repeatedly that Santa isn't going to bring her every gift she asks for.

I think this is a good idea. There is no way I'd be able to afford to buy everything.

Spinoff to Santa gift
My DD is almost 3.5 y/o and we wrote out her list in the beginning of Dec. Since then she has been adding to it every time she sees a commercial, a circular in the newspaper, etc. She writes it on her list by herself in scribbles lol. But we explained that Santa can't bring everything on her list and it's up to him to pick and choose what she gets so its a surprise. She's been fine with that response.

This.
AJ believes Santa only fills her stocking (just like they show you on the movie - Santa Claus is coming to town) So her 'list' is very modest. She asked for chocolate, cat toys to play with the cats. That's all she wants from Santa. Oh and she wants to leave cookies for Santa this year!
She also asked for stuff for xmas. TMNT jammies (which my aunt bought and GAVE her already - hi.. for xmas remember? how hard would it have been to wait ONE WEEK?) a blanket and a pillow all TMNT and 'something cindrella' LOL
At 6, she still has no desire for high priced items. Thank HEAVEN! She just likes the whole spirit, lights, feeling and fun of xmas. Gifts are just extra. She will no doubt want to be the one to hand OUT the gifts on xmas day. She loves that part.
Santa can't afford big gifts for all kids. His elves don't make tech. They make things that fit into stockings!

I guess I'm the minority. You get what you get and be grateful for that is my motto...if you're not grateful it will get donated to children who will appreciate it.

Re: Spinoff to Santa gift
My DS tried to pull that on me. He made a whole new list that had completely different stuff from the first one. I refuse to run out and buy new stuff. He spent a good amount of time on that first list and I put a cap of 10 things because everything was $$.

Spinoff to Santa gift
My DD is 3 and asks for everything she sees in stores, TV, etc.... I tell her Santa gets some of the stuff you want, not everything. I know on Christmas morning she is going to be so overwhelmed she is not going to remember the commercials she saw within the past couple of days.
