BFing a toddler
Has anyone found it has become increasingly difficult to BF as your LO gets older? I have always had nursing issues on and off, but all resolved pretty quickly with proper treatment. Since DD turned 15 months my supply has dropped substantially and she really tugs to try to get stuff out which makes me really sore. I tried the shields and she won't nurse with them. It is so painful. Not sure if she is biting and tugging or what but I have splits in the skin around my nipples that even with antibiotic ointments, creams, and lanolin won't heal. I tried repositioning her latch, but it looks right. Any other suggestions before I throw in the towel?

Re: BFing a toddler
Sorry you're going through a rough BF patch. I'm still nursing my 15 month-old and if anything it's gotten easier (except that he wants to nurse in some crazy positions, lol). We went through some rough patches too and we're at a point where I finally feel it's easy. Try drinking lots of water.

BFing a toddler
Tons of water and mothers milk tea helped. Also my cousin made these oatmeal cookies and after eating a few I had a huge increase. I know there are recipes online for lactation cookies. I found at 18mos things got a lot easier bc dd moved classrooms at school and wasn't allowed a bottle. So I stopped pumping completely and only nursed am, before nap (if it was weekends) and before bed. At about 20mos I dropped the nap time nursing and at 22mos dropped the am feeding. Now at 27mos it is only before bed and some nights get skipped if I go out and don't out her to bed. I am pretty sure I barely make milk and when she nurses it's for like a min each side.
You do what is right for you, but I found it's just gotten a lot easier and we have slowly tapered down and probably will stop soon. Supposedly toddler milk is adapted for toddlers and a little bit is very nutritious so I am kind of trying to get through flu season and then stop for good.
