BFing DC#2 when DC#1 is a toddler?
Just wondering for those BTDT moms who BFed their 2nd (or more) child when their 1st child was a toddler, what did you tell your DC about BFing the baby? Did you explain that some babies drink from mommies breast while others get it from a bottle? My DS thinks that the baby only gets milk from a bottle since that's what they do in the stories we read him as well as my friends who have babies- they are all bottle feeding. I plan on using a cover but def know hes going to be questioning/curious as to why I am feeding the baby from my boob (he's a little over 2 1/2). Also, how did your toddler respond/react? I hope this post makes sense LOL TIA!

miki was okay with it, there were times when she wanted me to play with her and she would say "feed kj from a bottle, not from your boobie"
I was a bf'ing failure and only did it for 4 weeks though

Ryan was 19 months when Colin was born. He was very curious in the beginning - he would climb up on the boppy when I was nursing Colin. Now, he thinks nothing of it. I explained the baby gets milk from mommy's body. Now if I'm nursing he says, "Colin eats mommy's body - two bodies"

DS was curious at first, I just told him the baby gets milk from mommies body just like he did when he was little and then played up the fact he was a big boy and got to drink from a cup, eat food, etc. My second is 7 weeks and I am not sure DS even pays us much attention now when I am nursing. Sometimes he does want my attention though and tries to climb on us, but most of the time he just keeps doing what he is doing. I make sure he is all 'set' before I BF--see if he needs snack, water, diaper change, etc. I was pretty nervous about they dynamic, but so far so good

Re: BFing DC#2 when DC#1 is a toddler?
Robbie was fascinated by it and whenever Noah would cry he'd say "QUICK! GET YOUR BOOBIE!"
He outgrew the fascination relatively quickly. He knew that he had done the same and he just became okay with the fact that breasts feed babies.
I forgot to explain that not all babies were breastfed.. so the first time he saw a baby getting a bottle he was very confused. "But his Mommy is there! You only do bottles when the Mommy isn't there!" So it required a WHOLE OTHER conversation.

Madelyn was 17 months old when Eliza was born, and 29 months old when Eliza was weaned. She was a little curious at first but never asked questions. She just "understood" I suppose.
She did "nurse" her Elmo doll for awhile though.
I'll be expecting MORE questions from her this time around as she's definitely more inquisitive.

Re: BFing DC#2 when DC#1 is a toddler?
DS was 2 years, 3 months when DD was born.
He was interested in what I was doing at first. He asked what I was doing. I told him I was feeding DD. She was drinking milk. Then DS proceeded to ask,
"You feeding Caitlin out your tummy?"
Honestly, I didn't feel the need to explain any further. At 2 years old, if he wants to think I am feeding her from my tummy, that is fine by me.
Now he hardly pays any attention when I feed her. (only 2 months later)

My DD was 3 1/2 when DS was born. It was normal for her as she was only weaned when she turned 3. I did wonder if she would want to start feeding again but thankfully she didnt ....she said its just for babies. She is totally fine with it even though if I finish feeding DS and dont pull my top down straight away she pulls it down for me I think as long as you are matter of fact about it and not embarassed your child will not blink an eye.

Re: BFing DC#2 when DC#1 is a toddler?
DD will be 18 months when DC#2 is born, and I've been thinking a lot about the logistics of how it's going to work out. I'm sure she'll be curious about what's going on, and I'll definitely explain in "simplified" terms.
I'm more worried that she'll remember that SHE used to BF and want to go back

My 2 year old DID want to breastfeed again! He asked if he could try - but didn't press the issue when I told him no.

I was concerned about this too. I specifically weaned Ryan when I was 4months PG, he was 14 months, so there wouldn't be any confusion. He didn't seem to remember he just got off the boob 5 months prior

my 2 kids are 22 months apart. for hte first 2-3 months, my toddler was pretty jealous whenever i bf baby- would push him, so on, but nto really getting the nursing part. now, she is almost 2.5, and she getsd tha baby eats form mommy. but- she has said to me a few times i" i want to eat from mommy too", o your friend isnt so far off. she definitly does NOT remember nursing, i weaned aorun 13 months. oh and she "pretend" nurses her babies too. btw- she is MUCH more fascinated by pumping. she will take the flanges ,stick on ehr stomach, and go marching around, saying she is making the baby a bottle. lovely.

I think no matter what the age is, they'll always be fascinated.
my 7 year old niece LOVES to be around when I am giving the breast. she even sits with my when I pump she's just really curious about the whole thing.
I think it's fine to let him see you. you can tell him all about how he did it when he was tiny like his lil sibling.

Re: BFing DC#2 when DC#1 is a toddler?
Oh she gets it.
Infact we've had a few instances where she'll lift her shirt and try to feed her stuffed turtle or Elmo
If I pump, she's VERY interested and says "You pump your boobies mama? To get the milk for baby wowa?"
At first she would have to be RIGHT on top of me when I nursed. Now she really could care less.
She'll just say "You gotta feed baby wowa again?"
I have to laugh cuz the other day when my mom was over she grabbed these padded inserts to a sports bra I was going to get and she puts them up to her chest and starts singing "Pumpin' boobies! pumpin' boobies!"
My mom and I were dying!!!!!
