What does your morning routine look like if you have kids in school/daycare?
My boys are just 3 and almost 5 and I have a 7 month old girl. Our morning routine has greatly improved, but still is not working, as I never ever get to work on time (I work in a preschool and they come with me for school/daycare). I get everything ready the night before. My husband gets up with us and helps. My boys need to eat before we go and my daughter needs to be nursed. What are some good tips that work for you to help the morning run smoothly?

Re: What does your morning routine look like if you have kids in school/daycare?
I have two boys 5 and 3. I get myself dressed and ready first. My 5 year old takes longer to wake so I get him up first and bring him downstairs. I start his breakfast (usually cereal or pancakes, waffles, etc... something easy and fast). While he's eating I unload the dishwasher then go up to get my 3 yr old. He gets up pretty quick and is usually waiting for me. Take him down and then he already has his milk and picks a breakfast. They get their vitamins together. While they eat I get started on some emails (I work from home), coffee, stuffing their book bags, etc. I already have their clothes picked out the night before so right after breakfast they get dressed and I clean up. We have about 20 mins or so of free time so they can watch TV, play on Ipad, color, etc. I put everything in the car and then it's time to go. I should add for breakfast I do let them watch TV. They're still zoning and it's a good way for me to get what I need done while they eat and watch a show usually on Nick Jr or something. Depending on what school we are pretty good at getting out on time.

I shower at night now, and then just do my hair in the morning. That shaves off a lot of time from my morning routine.

I get up at 5 am and then wake DH and DS up at 6 am. BY the time they are up I am almost ready. Just last touch ups right before I walk out the door.
I rarely do things at night but I have plenty of time between 5- 6 am to get anything together.

Re: What does your morning routine look like if you have kids in school/daycare?
I get up at 6-615, shower, do my hair get dressed, eat breakfast, get DS up around 7-715, get him dressed, get his breakfast ready, he eats while he watches TV, pack his lunch, whatever he doesn't eat i will pack in a thermos, then i have to usually drag him out of the house at 745 to drop him off at 8 at the daycare at his school. Now that I'm thinking about it I don't know how I'm going to do it with 2!

Re: What does your morning routine look like if you have kids in school/daycare?
Well, I only have one son so that makes a huge difference!
But, I pack his bag for daycare the night before with everything he needs. I pick out his clothes and my clothes the night before as well - every moment counts!
He typically wakes up between 6:30am and 7am and we try to be out the door and in the car/on the road by 7:05am the latest. If he wakes up closer to 6:30 we can even leave early! This depends on him but I make sure I am ready to go by 6:30am the latest so that if he wakes up on the earlier side of his time-frame then I'm good.
That means I get up at around 5:30am, I shower for about 10-15 minutes, hair, brush teeth, make up, dress, bowl of cheerios, put my bag and DS's daycare bag in the car, make sure dogs are good. Grab DS's breakfast. Done.
When he wakes I go in, I dress him, jacket, out the door and grab the breakfast as I go for him -- put him in the car seat and hand him his breakfast, he eats it on the way to daycare.

IMO it sounds like you might unfortunately need to get you and everyone up earlier.
I wake up and then wake DH and wakes up the kids. He gets them ready while I get ready ( I take about 45 mins total if that to get ready in the morning); he feed them and dress them.
I try to prep everything the night before.
I don't know if you like to shower after you nurse (I don't breastfeed so I don't know ) but I would get up earlier than you are now nurse the baby and then shower and get ready.

What do you give him for on the go breakfast? We have some hectic mornings and I need some ideas for that. The other day I tossed him a cheese stick and fruit snacks and made him swear he wouldn't tell anyone that is what he had for breakfast. (Crappy mom moment #476)
My morning routine is I get up around 6:40 and shower. DS wakes up anywhere between 7-8. He watches TV while I finish up. Then we spend the next half hour playing "Try to catch/wrestle me so you can dress me, brush my teeth and make me use the potty". Sometimes its less than a half hour. Those are the days he gets a real breakfast. I do not recommend following my "routine".

I have one DS who is 7 months old. I get all of our stuff ready the night before.
I wake up at 5:25. I pump as I put on makeup and do my hair. I eat breakfast at 5:40 and then brush my teeth. I wake DS up at 6. I change him and nurse him. I then get changed. We are out the door at 6:55. DS is at daycare at 7. I am at work by 7:30.

Re: What does your morning routine look like if you have kids in school/daycare?
I get up around 545 and get myself ready My kids wake up anywhere from 6-7 Every second of my morning is busy
Everyone's lunch and breakfast is made the night before Lunch boxes and bookbags are on kitchen table ready to be packed (they eat at school)
If my youngest is up first I get him dressed and givehim a bowl of cereal in his high chair ..mostly to keep him busy and out of the way.
As the others wake up we brush teeth and door hair. My dd wil dress herself. I get ds dressed.
Dh gets his butt out of bed around 700 and comes down and helps with jackets and shoes and puts bags in my car.
We are out door by 715
Eta: I have 2 almost 4 year olds and a 20 month old

Re: What does your morning routine look like if you have kids in school/daycare?
I have 2 boys - ages 3 and 5. The boys attend different schools so mornings are hectic. It was so much easier when they were attending the same school.
I do as much as I can the night before. Pick out boys clothes and my clothes, pack snack for DS, make sure everything that needs to go to school is in backpack.
7:00 Everyone is awake 7:15 Prep breakfast for boys 7:30 I shower 8:00 Everyone gets dressed 8:30 We are out the door 8:35 Kiss and Ride at elementary school Kiss and Ride line takes 5-10 min 8:50 Drop of DS at preschool
Writing it out makes it look easy but it is a scramble most mornings to get out the door and get kids to school on time.

Yes, I agree.
At the very least, you should wake up 30 minutes earlier to get yourself ready before the kids. That way you can dedicate your time to getting them out of the house.
Now that it's winter, add at least 10 minutes to getting out the door since you have to factor in coats, zippers, hats, boots, etc.
I need to better manage my time in the morning too. The last 10 minutes I am running around like a lunatic. It's pretty sad that I can't get my act together.

Re: What does your morning routine look like if you have kids in school/daycare?
Mine are 3 & 5 - and I have to catch a 7;15 train in the city. DH leaves an hour before me so I'm doing the whole routine alone.
I get up, shower and get myself ready - I get the kids up, dressed, teeth brushed, faces washed etc EVERYTHING done before I put the TV on ...... I let them sit and hang out while I finish getting ready - get everyone's coats on and out the door by 6:50 at the latest.
I prepr lunch or anything else the night before. They get bathed at night - but I can't shower the night before - I have to shower in the morning or I feel gross.
You just have to power through it - My whole morning routine is 45 min - an hour depending on whether or not I got out of be 15 min early

Earth's Best Organic (the brand) makes these organic blueberry whole wheat mini waffles - they are four little waffles stuck together to form the size of one large waffle. I toast them in the toaster oven, while I'm dressing Julian, and then grab them as we go out the door. I just have to break them into the four pieces and give them to him in the car and he gobbles them down on the way to daycare.
Earth's Best also makes something similar in the form of french toast sticks.
There are also these organic fresh fruit cereal bars called "Jammy Sammies" - those are good on the go. They have quite a few things like this - Earth's Best is the one brand, I can't think of the other brand names off-hand but I know that they sell them at Whole Foods, Fairway has a huge selection, some at BRU, and some at Trader Joe's.
Julian eats those to take the edge off in the morning while I drive him to daycare and then when he gets to daycare he has, usually, oatmeal or fresh fruit greek yogurt, or cheerios, etc. in the morning.

Re: What does your morning routine look like if you have kids in school/daycare?
waking up earlier is the crappiest part of the week for me, but i can tell you its the only thing that makes the morning feeling a little less stressed. here is my schedule in the AM: (4 year old & 9 month old)
5am- wake up; go downstairs & pack lunch for my oldest, get morning bottle ready for baby, get my coffee ready, lay out clothes (bottles for day care are always done the night before as this saves time in the morning)
530am- i get in the shower
615- wake up my oldest & have him dressed
630- wake baby up; feed/dress him
645/650- finishing touches on myself (makeup/shoes/hair)
7am- jackets on & out the door no later than 715!!
it totally sucks but waking up earlier really does the trick
