Nanny/sitter buying kids stuff
I don't want this post to seem like I am ungrateful but my sitter is always buying my kids stuff and I always feel guilty/bad.
She almost always brings a craft for them to do together. Today she walked in with a huge bag from Michael's of crafts.
She gave my DS an Olaf she bought and then sent her dd to the store to buy my other 2 kids one.
Last week she brought me coffee and the kids munchkins
I am soooo grateful....but she is also telling me she has no money, they are broke etc. so I feel bad.
I buy her little gifts for each holiday. Halloween, thanksgiving etc
Today I felt so bad she spent so much $ that I gave her an extra $20 in her pay. But I can't always be doing that.
Should I feel bad?

Sounds like she is a compulsive spender. Tough spot but to be totally honest I wouldn't get in the habit of giving extra. I'd say something like I don't want you spending so much out of pocket on the kids, I'm picking up some crafts for you guys to do throughout the month.

It is a sweet gesture - if she buys crafts and activities for the kids to do I would reimburse her. If it becomes excessive make a comment. the gifts she may just enjoy giving to them.

Mine does this too. She goes to the dollar store every weekend & brings my kids stuff. I buy crafts & art supplies. Anything she buys is extra. She has bought things where I have offered her $ (gloves for the kids)... She refuses. I would stock stuff yours may need. Just thank her for the extras.

I would just say something the next time she buys art supplies, like oh did I run out of something? And see what she is purchasing. And then make sure your supplies are all stocked.

Re: Nanny/sitter buying kids stuff
Maybe give her a $20 Michaels GC so she can buy crafts. Maybe she just likes doing them with the kids. Or buy some yourself. Then do a nicer holiday bonus.

My sitter has done this but only once in a while. The times she bought him stuff for holidays i just give a thank you card. The other times she bought him a couple things he needed i put extra $ in her check. She always yells at me, but i keep telling her she isnt working to pay for his things!! I know she loves him and just wants him to have things. Recently she asked me to buy a new playmat and a ride on toy. She just brings it up like -- "oh did you see that new ride on toy xyz, he would love that" and then i just buy it.

I like this idea. Have the conversation with her. I really appreciate you buying the kids stuff, but I want to be able to provide the craft supplies you need. I am going to give you this Michaels gift card. Let me know when things need to be replenished and i will get another or get the stuff myself
