4.5 years apart - the only con for us is jealously, but that finally seems to be calming down (after 7 months). Everything else has been wonderful, I love having a baby and a big girl, and even though baby is still little she gives her big sister te biggest smiles, which truly warms my heart.

Mine are almost 2.5 years apart. I wanted them a little closer, but that's not how it worked out. I like the age difference, but then again I don't know any different.

The one hard thing is going through the terrible 3's with an infant. For a while there I felt like I was spending so much time yelling at DS1 because I couldn't deal with them both at the same time.

But things are getting better now that DS1 is 3.5 and DS2 just turned 1. They are starting to be able to play together and DS1 seems to have turned the corner on his crazy behavior. If we go for a 3rd I'd like the age difference to be about the same because I don't want them so far apart in age that they can't play together and enjoy some of the same things at the same time.

I wanted my kids close together but due to IF issues it just didn't work out that way. They are EXACTLY 4.5 yrs apart and to be honest, it was a blessing in disguise.

I think the age difference has been GREAT! Bringing a new baby home when your other child is already somewhat independent is so much easier. My DD understood what was happening throughout my whole pregnancy, she was thrilled when DS was born, and she has always been so patient and loving with him and was also a huge help to me. She was able to give him bottles, soothe him, an entertain him. And now at 19 months and 6 yo they are just too cute together, total best buddies. There has never been any jealousy on my DD's end either which made us so happy.

The other nice thing, she started Kindergarten 6 months after he was born so not only did it give me a break during the day but for DS, it's almost like he's an only child for a few hours a day. He gets lots of one-on-one time while she's at school and that's so nice for the both of us.

I have no complaints about the big age difference, I love it! Chat Icon

Completely agree. DS turned 4 two months before DD was born. He (so far-she's 19 months old now) has never been resentful/jealous of her. He was always a big helper with her from the time she was born. He was super excited throughout the pregnancy and would talk to and kiss my belly. He was in nursery school 5 days per week for 2.5 hours starting 5 months after she was born so it was really nice to have the 1:1 time with DD and she really seems to enjoy it (he's in K now). They are so cute together and play together nicely. We had wanted them slightly closer in age but do to medical issues with me that took forever to resolve we ended up with this and it's been perfect for us! Their are pros to having them closer in age I'm sure but this is how life turned out and our family has been very happy! Good luck!

My boys are exactly 2 years apart by 1 day. I love this age gap. They are able to do a lot of activities together and are one another's playmates.

It was tough in the beginning but wonderful now.

My boys are 3.5 years apart. I love the age difference. I never wanted to have kids close together. DS1 was potty trained, independent and understood that I needed to tend to his brother when he cried. There were never any jealousy issues. They adore each other. There really haven't been any negatives to the age gap.
