Mirena IUD- Give me the good, the bad and the ugly
Considering it.
Day 2 of my period is really, really heavy. I go through a few overnights that day. The Dr said it would help with that. I am not too crazy about the hormones it contains though but my Dr said it was safe. I thought I had heard you have an increased risk of stroke or blood clots? He says no.
Thanks

Stroke and clots are a sude effect of any hormone. So the pill will be the same.
I can't comment on the actual product but know that I am never Allowed to take hormones due to my clotting issues.

Re: Mirena IUD- Give me the good, the bad and the ugly
Im on month 2 and I'm waiting for this "no more period" people rave about.. I'm bleeding 50% of the month since I got Mirena.. granted, it's not really heavy but enough to be annoying. I do like not worrying about taking my pill but until I get to that period-free life I can't rave about it quite yet!

Stroke risk is increased with BC containing hormones. Due to medical reasons I cannot use any hormone containing bc and I have been happy with the paraguard IUD.

Re: Mirena IUD- Give me the good, the bad and the ugly
I have the Mirena and am happy with it. Got it at my PP checkup. I think it did take a few months for my period to go away, but it was much lighter. I still occasionally get light spotting, but overall, I'm glad I got it. A big part of my decision to get it was to lessen my period...it was bad. My doc said that while it does have hormones, the dose is so low that it is not even detectable in the blood, as it mostly stays right in the uterus.

I had it for about 6 months before I got it taken out. I was convinced that I was pregnant while on it because of all the side effects. Bloating and nausea especially. I know that some people love it, but it just wasn't for me. Removal was really easy though so it may be worth a try if your insurance will cover it.

Mirena IUD- Give me the good, the bad and the ugly
My doc put me on a low lo does pill and i have the same symptoms as the IUD users. The first 1-2 months i had constant spotting and periods... then after that no period again. And my periods were bad. If you dont like the idea of an IUD ask about "Lo Loestrin" not Loestrin 24.

Re: Mirena IUD- Give me the good, the bad and the ugly
Ive had it in for just over 2 years. It took 1 yr for me to really get regulated which was annoying. But I still get my period... I get it like clockwork. Always did... But it is soooo much lighter and only lasts like 2 days. I don't feel any side effects really.
