Re: Italy
We went to the Amalfi Coast this past spring. It was beautiful, friendly and very unique. The only thing I would change about our trip is I would stay at a different hotel every 2 days. We stayed at the same hotel and the taxi rides became very expensive to travel to the other towns.

Depends where in Italy you are planning on going to and for how long.
My family is from the Milano and Tuscany areas. If you are planning on being around there my recommendations are Cinque Terre, Portovenere, Lucca, Florence, Liguria and see Rapallo, Santa Marghertia, La Spezia, Sanremo, Portofino etc.
I prefer the less common places over the more popular cities like Rome and Florence. Since I have family there and we visit them I know how much beauty there is to be seen in the smaller lesser known areas.
Rome is beautiful but is one big tourist hole IMO. I literally spent an entire day there, hit the must sees like the Trevi Fountain, The Coliseum and the Spanish Steps, and just kept on moving. Its so crowded that you can't even stop and enjoy it.
The Ligurian/Italian Riviera is just gorgeous...you won't be disappointed.

It depends on when you're going too.
Of course if you've never been there and you're going between October and May, Rome, Florence Milan and Venice. Except up there in Milan and Venice it's freezing.
If you're going during high season, you're better off flying into Milan, doing your Ligurian coast, then Rome for 2 nights, Down to the Amalfi Coast (a Must) then I'd go to Sicily.

Re: Italy
Pompeii and Capri would be on my list to revisit. But really anywhere you go is a great experience.

We will have at least 2 weeks, so I'm trying to do research where to go. Whatever places you recommend I will look into. Also, we have been to Rome before so we only want to go for a day or two at most. When we went to Rome we walked and walked and walked to delicious ice cold fountains. I never loved water so much in my life. I needed a vacation after that vacation. So, we did the whole touristy thing. Now, I want to enjoy Italy, and take my time go to cooking classes, gondola rides, beach etc.

Rome, I can't begin to tell you how I fell in love with Rome, but I'm a city girl. If you get the chance, go to Vatican and get up to the top of St. Peter's Basillica.. it was just amazing! :)

We stayed in sorrento for several days and did a day trip to Capri. Highly recommend doing something like that.

I was going to send her there and I kind of included it in the Amalfi coast, lol. Maybe she should stay at the castle

Re: Italy
I love Venice-- going again for the New Year. I tend to like the food in the North more. I've been to Positano, Capri, and Pompeii. It was really beautiful.
If you are looking for a different type of Italy, definitely check out South Tyrol (Alto Adige). I just got back from a weekend there and I will definitely be spending more time there. The views of the Alps and the Dolomites are stunning. The one thing I liked, but was kind of disappointed with (if that makes any sense) was the food. It was good, but I really just wanted less German food and more pasta!
