Thinking way ahead - Christening

I haven't even had my baby yet, but thinking ahead helps me keep my anxiety in check, so humor me!

Who gets invited to a Christening? Just our immediate families and closest friends is already close to 35 people. If we open up to our aunts uncles and cousins, we are closing in on 100 people. I know everyone is different, but who is typcially invired?

We just went to a Christening which was at a catering hall, complete with a DJ and they probably had about 100+ people, but I didn't think that was normal!

TIA!

I also have a big family when including Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. Unfortunately there was no way around not inviting them (we got invited to our cousins' kids' christenings) so we did have a big christening. I tried to pick a restaurant that had reasonable prices. We did not have a DJ for the Christening, it was just dinner.

If you can do it and not offend any family members then just mention you are only having a dinner with immediate family only.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, and I"m sure the grandparents like to invite some close family friends, right? I see how things snowball . . .

Its all normal. There will always be the huge parties with DJs at halls and then there will be the small family gathering at home or restaurant.

Do whatever you want.

IMO this is a party you and DH are throwing so only your friends would get invited. It's not like a wedding where your parents technically could invite their friends...

To answer your Q we invite immediate family. The only aunts and uncles we invited were our parent's sibling and their kids. We didn't invite distant aunts and uncles bc then we'd have over 100 ppl.

In this case I would tell them no friends and you are keeping it to family only.

For our DS christening we invited over 100 people. Our parents have 17 siblings between them all (and that's isn't including spouses!). Not everyone came and I think we had like 65-70 people in total show up.

It's really of matter of what you want to do. We just had us, and immediate family, grandparents, aunts and uncles (meaning me and DH siblings and their family) and godparents (who were actually included in the immediate family) and took everyone for a nice dinner. It was perfect for us. Chat Icon

I had immediate family and close friends only (about 50 people) at John Harvards.

This is what we did. If we invited one of our aunts, or cousins it would open the flood gates to invite all. I did the same exact thing with DS 1st birthday. I had one extended family member comment to me that they were upset they werent invited. I just said I was sorry but we wanted an intimate party with just immediate family. that was it.

Dh and I have small families. We invited our immediate family, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a couple of close friends. We had about 65 people. No DJ just dinner.

I've done the 50-60 ppl with close friends & family.

My sister did only immediate family (grandparents & godparents).

Both turned out well.

We had 50-60 with just family and close friends. Seated dinner and live guitarist instead of a dj- great time!

Re: Thinking way ahead - Christening

We have very small families & some live all over the country... we invited our parents, siblings, the extended family we are closest to, friends of the family, and our good friends. I think we had 32 people in total including us. We had it at a German restaurant & we didn't have any entertainment other than the food and each other lol.

Re: Thinking way ahead - Christening

We only invited family (grandparents, our siblings and our aunts and uncles) and are expecting 30 people next weekend. If we invited friends, we'd be over 50, which our house could not handle!

Thinking way ahead - Christening

We had immediate family, then aunts / uncles. We both have small families so about 30-35 people total and had dinner at a restaurant.
