Thinking ahead a Un(or is it non)-birthday party?

I have never had a bday party for AJ. Reasons are plenty but it is what it is. Her birthday is in late august and so she’ll be 5 at a new school (kindergarten). I’m thinking that I’ll do a Disney theme the week before we leave for Disney. The how and where I blew off until summer to think about.

I was fine.. then more and more of AJ’s friends keep asking me and my hubby when they can go to AJ’s party. Some of which AJ has been to their parties. The three little girls who seem to be AJ’s little ‘group’ have collectively asked me (I felt like they sat me down to talk) very directly when and where the party would be. So I started thinking, why not give her a party - one last with the old friends bash?

So Here’s my questions:
Is it crazy to throw a little graduation party at the end of this term? Say sometime in May or wait until June?
Would it be easier to just have an ‘unbirthday’ party around April? There’s a few kids at her school who’s birthdays fall during the summer or holidays so they have non- or un- birthday parties at another time of the year. They just call them birthday parties of course. Early or Late bday parties.

Then Lastly, I’d like to keep my out of pocket low. I work at Michaels and was thinking of having it there but it only holds around 24 chairs. Given you must have an adult for every 5 children the space is just too tight. But I can buy the craft supplies (they have neat stuff for $1 etc) and have a craft party somewhere else. Maybe have all the kids make crowns and where them at Chuck E Cheese? Or maybe take them to a park and just order in some Costco pizza so they can have a playground in April (such pretty weather). Then I worry about weather if it rains. Ugh.

Her class size is 24 and her afterschool friend list is around 10 so its about 30 or so who ‘could come’ and I’m guessing around 15 who will come.

I’m a newbie party holder. HELP!

(seriously the ONLY party I've ever held for me was my wedding and that took me a year to figure out!)

Why aren't you just having a regular party when it is her birthday?

I'm no help with parties, but did 3 grown women actually sit you down in January and press you for answers about a potential party date in August??

I am also confused as to why you wouldn't wait until her birthday.

I think she wants to have a party with her daughter's current classmates, because it sounds like she'll be starting a new school right around the time of her real birthday?

How about a "half birthday" party?

LOL almost it was her three kid friends. one is VERY pushy

Ironically yes two of the mothers have nicely inquired. "Iz keeps asking me when AJ's party is........" questioning look.

I dont know WHAT to call the party since its not her bday at all.

I hate this.

yes yes .. this.

I want her to have a party but I want it to be with her CURRENT friends whom she'll lose touch with in June (when school ends)

So how do I have a party with all the current friends if its not her bday?

I agree with the "Half Birthday" party and do it in February or March since that is technically her "Half" Birthday.

I think a half birthday party would be fine. But Chuck E Cheese is not a cheap option. I think the cheapest package is $20 per kid, so you're looking at a minimum of $300 up to $600.

You mentioned doing a graduation party at the end of the term - I think that's a nice idea, makes sense because your daughter will be leaving for a new school, and seems to fall during the time period you want.

Don't over think it... Invite friends to an end of the year/farewell/so-lomg-its-been-fun/whatever you want to call it celebration.

An Un-Birthday is from Alice in Wonderland. Which fits into your Disney theme :)

I would call it a birthday party, or an un-birthday party with a disney theme. Chuck e cheese was about 15 per kid. It ran me less than 300 for 15 kids and the adults including goody bags. You could give the craft as a goody bag present.

I'd tell them.. Sorry, we only have family parties... And end it there... Why have a party when you're really only doing it for other nosey parents Chat Icon
