WWYD Daycare and sickness related # updated#

Both my girls go to daycare. Since the start of school year my infant (6m) has been sent home for 3 weeks in a row. THey dont mix with the older kids.
Week 1 short week she was fine.
Week 2- sent home on Thurs for Loose BM (Fri-Sun she was ok)
Week 3- Mon sent home vomit 2x and loose BM. Take to the MD shes got virus.
*Find out that only one infant made it to thurs before getting it, Staff got it too.
Week4 - All is good until THurs sent home loose BM's
Fri-weekend she was fine.
This week - Tue send home again Vomit and loose BM (2).

Im freaking out. I would expect some sickness but REALLY?? I complained to the Director of the Daycare and she assured me that everthing was sanitized twice because the entire room and anyone who came in contact got sick. They quarantined that room for a day to clean it but it seems that soemthing is still going around.
I didnt get a great feeling that they "Did everything they could"
I guess I am looking for what i should do next. My 2yo class is in the other side of the building and shes fine. Im living at the Ped and my poor baby is getting knocked around with this virus.

Help a Mama before I call the DOH.

°°*** took DD to peds cause it
Didn't occur to me that it could be a food issue. Since we just started introducin vegetables. Why I didn't realize that it's beyond me. Now I feel horrible.

I would be angry also. I do understand that germs do go around.

Can you ask what their defination of loose BMs are? Is she having them at home too? Are they giving her their water or snacks?

That is a lot of times for any child to be sick. I don't know if they are using the right "cleaning" supplies. Can you ask what the procedure is also? I would call the DOH if you didn't feel comfortable with their answers.

I feel for you and DC...its horrible when they are sick, but its even worse when its every other week.

My cousin just told me her kids have both been sick since they started daycare a month ago. Both are under 2 years old and they have had colds, fevers, vomiting, diarrhea, pink eye etc.

I get that kids are going to get sick especially in group settings but I have to think that they are not sanitizing properly for them to be coming down with something on a weekly basis.

We had a tough time last march. Dd was sick for 4 weeks. Different issues like this.

Unfortunately this happens and isn't uncommon in daycare. I would maybe see if it turns around. Certainly ask questions make sure you are comfortable.

But children in group settings share a lot of germs. Once they are fighting one thing, they are more susceptible to something else.

One lose bm seems silly to send child home. Could just be too much fruit one day. I would question that policy.

The two vomit incidents are probably not related since if it's one virus then she would only get it once.

Also my daycare would not send home for loose stools unless it was all day and bad. Ds would have the occasional looses poop and he never was sent home.

I do have to say that for the first year ds was in daycare he was sick constantly. Hate to day it but it's kind if pat for the course. No matter how clean the place is when you have kids putting toys in their mouth all day long germs get passed.

The 2 year old room will never have as much illness as those kids are not swapping spit on toys as much.

It gets better and the beginning of the year is always bad.

It took my first a year of illness when he started daycare. My second started recently too, same thing, more sick than the 3 year old. Babies put more in their mouth, they are on the floor more, not sure what they mean by loose poop-all baby poop is loose-like to me. The vomit is a concern, might be new food related, they might be over feeding, not knowing her cues? Or maybe just sick again but will build immunity! Hang in there. Give more rice cereal to tighten those stools?!

Could her loose BM's be related more to formula or teething than a virus? How do we know the difference? I feel horrible for you trhat they keep sending her home... I'd question them!

So between complaining and going to the Ped I found out that she may have had a reaction to Sweet Potatoes because she had a rash on her face That I thought was new clothing related and then she was sick at school (vomit & Loose BM). We started Banana and rice to clear up the poop issue and we changed the formula to Total Comfort. In speaking with the Daycare ladies in her room they have her as eaiting every 2hrs on the schedule. Well thats definetly something that has to change cause at home shes eating more like every 3hrs depending if shes hungrier or not that changes. She will take a bottle even if shes not hungry (mommies lil piggie)

She vomited again last night when hubby gave her a bottle 1hr after i nursed her while I was out.

I wish there were some books with these kids!!! OMG LOL Chat Icon
