How do you keep a 3 year old in a bed?

She's a nightmare! Completely refuses to stay in & screams at the gate in front of her door.
She's always been a terror at nap & bedtime so we kept her in a crib as long as possible.
We finally converted into a bed last week & each night gets worse, just don't know what to do.

ETA: so I found an old post I think I did the supper nanny technique and it worked:

When we moved DD in a crib at little over 2 it took us a few days before she would just stay in the bed. we did the method of which we go in at 10 minutes tell her mommy and daddy are here its ok good night. and then we did 15 min then 20 etc by 45 minutes she stopped it got shorter day 2 and day 3
