Why can I never be happy?

I don't know if I am just hard on myself or too much of a perfectionist, but I agonize over every renovating/redecorating decision. Then, I finally make one and I hate it. I couldn't decide on a paint color for my kitchen/dining room. I narrowed it down to green but could not find the "right" green. so, I finally chose one. Now after hours and hours of painting, touching up, I don't like it. It is too blue of a green. I really wanted an olive but every olivey green I found was too dark. It is going to drive me crazy forever and it is way to much work to repaint a kitchen and dining room with crown and base board molding. Chat Icon And this is one of the 8 trillion decisions I have had to make in the past 2 months and all seem to go this way.

Does anyone else torture themselves like I do?

Don't get too crazy over it. The great thing about paint is that you can evenutally try new colors and repaint. I would not worry to much. The color may actually grow on you. With the right lighting and decorating touches it may turn out to be what you want. We recently painted our dining room a light tan on top, dark red on the bottom with a white chair rail in the middle. At first I thought the red was too dark, but after we switched out our ceiling fan to a chandelier it brightened up the room and now I love it. Give it some time!

You sound like my mom!

She had the picnic table in the dining room for almost a year, b/c she couldn't decide on a dining room set!

She spent months picking a color for the LR, hated it as soon as it dried & then repainted it the next weekend.

Im like this sometimes, I pick something and then decide Im not thrilled with it or usually I just get bored with things so fast and want to switch things up. We've already repainted our livingroom/dining room and Im about to repaint the master bedroom (we havent even moved into the house yet!!)

Give it some time, maybe w/ the right accents you'll start to like it. Even a good amount of light makes a big difference in the way paint can look. Otherwise, just repaint. At first I didnt want to spend more $ on paint but then I figured I have to look at it everyday so I might as well love it! Good luck!! Chat Icon

Re: Why can I never be happy?

yes!!! i agonize too.....especially over paint

thats why i stuck with neutral colors - how can you hate a taupy or beigy color, kwim?

the rooms that i DID paint color, i hate one of the rooms- the other 2 i love

you are better off sticking to neutral
if you hate the green, id paint over it

Re: Why can I never be happy?

Um this is me...after AGONIZING over the kitchen color, I painted it. Now I HATE it...every noght I go in there and say to my DH..man, I hate this kitchen. I just refuse to do it over, until I get the rest of the house painted, LOL....I do not know if the color will grow on me, but laziness may take over for a while, so it may stay.....Chat Icon

I am the same exact way so I feel your pain over this. We just had the entire house painted and I hate my bathroom color and I am torn over the dining room. I think I can live with the dining room but the bathrooms HAVE to be changed and DH refuses to do it now. Chat Icon

Re: Why can I never be happy?

AT least I am not alone Chat Icon but why oh why do we do this to ourselves. I would totally paint it over but painting the kitchen/DR required more than any other room with all the trim and tape. I cannot waste another weekend doing it now. It is slowly growing on me and I am sure I will like it more once it is more decorated. It is not the perfect color but it isn't wrong either. Let it go...deep breath...(I keep trying this, we'll see how it works) Chat Icon
I would love to post pics but I can't find my camera anywhere!!!
