BTDT moms...burping question..
Sometimes when Megan burps after or between a feeding, its like this burp that almost sounds like choking. She literally burps so loud, and almost gags..I cant quite explain it. She did it a few times last week and now the past 2 days when she does it, she spits up and then gets the hiccups. Did this ever happen to your kids? I am not sure if burping like this is ok and the spitting up part is making me nervous. Anyone?

Re: BTDT moms...burping question..
This has happened to Grace since birth; she even hiccuped in my womb. I asked the ped about it and he said that is could be a slight reflux. We had her at a 30-45 degree angle when we fed her and that helped A LOT. This was normal for Grace and the ped did not seem too worried about it.

Re: BTDT moms...burping question..
Luciano has his own burping techniques, he does a combo of burps and farts on his own time
I was never crazy about giving the baby a bottle and wack wack on their back. I was always a gentle tapper for burps, even though some feel you need to give a firmer tap to get the burp out.
WE noticed with Luciano a few weeks ago, if you put him over your shoulder to burp him, SWOOSH, huge spitup, projectile WOW. So we stopped doing that.
Now we give him the bottle, leave him in that position in our arms, he burps and farts as he sits there chilling out, letting it settle. we rarely do the traditional burping thing. I really think every baby has their own way of eating/digesting.
So to answer your question, Luciano's big spitup burps were like that. a big frog-burp followed by what looked like he was gagging on something, and then sWOOSH all over the place. and yes he got the hiccups too.
so we stopped burping him like that (because of the spitup, not because of the hiccups) and now we do it at his pace, and just keep him in, not lying down flat, but somewhat lying down, in our arms (on an angle) and let him digest on his own time. IT works great for him, so, so far so good.
see if you can try different ways of burping her or try to follow her lead.

Re: BTDT moms...burping question..
All babies experience reflux. That's what spitting up really is, reflux. It just sounds like the contents of her belly settle after a while, then she lets out a big, gagging burp and is none for the worse. As for the hiccups, it's a developmental thing. They get the hiccups a lot until their little system can handle the pressure down in their diaphragms.

I agree. In fact the doctor told us the same thing. That all babies experience some kind of reflux whether it be mild or severe. DS the other week was spitting up a lot and crying during feedings and arching back. Sometimes he gets into these grooves. Now he's back to taking his feedings. But if he starts getting fussy I'll give him a half hour to hour break and sometimes he'll finish the rest of it. He's still spitting up but it's been less. Some days he'll spit up more. As for the hiccups DS always gets them.

Also the doctor said not to lay them down so quick after a feeding. To keep them in an upright position for at least 30-40 minutes and also when you feed them to sit them up and hold the bottle upright.

Re: BTDT moms...burping question..
Noreen, do you have a bouncy seat for her? I always put Ava in hers after she eats for about 20-30 minutes. It definitely helps the reflux issue. If you don't have a bouncy seat, let me know because you can borrow the one that Ava grew out of already.

Re: BTDT moms...burping question..
My daughter was not an easy burper and seemed to save it up and then WHAM major burp and huge cottage cheese spit up. I found that the rag doll position to burp her was the quickest and most effective for her. It also seemed to reduce her spit up.
