Hawaii for vow renewal
My DH and I will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary in 2016. We would like to do a vow renewal.
I have no idea where to start. We are hoping to stay in our timeshares. Can anyone recommend which islands we should consider?
Our DDs will be 5 and 7, we would lie to bring them.
Thanks!!!!!

I would say Maui, very popular for families (we saw a ton of families at the resort we stayed at for our HM).
ETA congrats!

Re: Hawaii for vow renewal
It really depends on what you want to do and see. Each Hawaiian island is completely different.
The first step is to figure out how long you're going to be there and then decide if you want to stay on one island the entire time or island hop.
Then figure out what's important to you to see:
if you want Pearl Harbor, Waikiki Beach, etc., you need to go to Oahu
if you want volcanos, you have to go to the Big Island
if you want lush tropical rain forests and waterfalls, it's Kauai
if you want full seclusion and luxury it's Lanai
and for a little bit of a mix, it's Maui.
We are taking our 6th trip to Hawaii in just a few weeks. This time we're going to Kauai and Maui. Last year we did the Big Island and Maui.
Things to also consider is budget. Even though you are planning on staying in your timeshare, be aware that timeshares in Hawaii fill up pretty quickly so you'll need to reserve it as soon as you can. Also it basically breaks down like this in terms of costs: Kauai is the most expensive, followed by Lanai, Maui, the Big Island and Oahu.

As PP mentioned, it all depends what you want to see.
We were there on a cruise so we got to see all the islands. our favorite was definitely Maui since it was what we were imagining Hawaii to be - tropical and beautiful with plenty of things to do and luaus to go to.
Oahu was boring to us - we couldn't really find anything to do there other than walk around the beach, to be honest. A lot of people obviously love that, but we just aren't sit-on-the-beach kind of people.

I think you're confusing Oahu and Kauai. Kauai is very quiet and laidback. Oahu has tons to do (pearl harbor, diamond head, Polynesian culture center, iolani palace, dole plantation, etc.)

Since most likely you will be flying into Ohau, I suggest staying there a few nights (2-3) before heading to your timeshare. I think Maui would be very romantic. Also don't forget to book a luau.

Oahu was one of the best parts of our honeymoon. We rented a car for the day, started at Diamond head, went to Dole plantation and drove around the Western side of the island.

Re: Hawaii for vow renewal
Thank you so much for all of the responses!
Everything posted above is so helpful. I am thinking of doing the vow renewal at a resort and my DH and I spending a night or two there to "honeymoon."
We enjoy quiet beach time but also want to make the most of our time there to really see Hawaii.
Please keep the information coming! I am sure I will be asking more questions as we narrow down where we are staying.

Re: Hawaii for vow renewal
We have been twice and both times stayed in Oahu our kids were 5 & 9. (my DH is in a wheelchair so island hopping would be tough). Oahu has a soon and aquarium within walking distance. The waters at the beach across the street were calm easy for the kids to play in. one trip we rented a car and went to the bigger aquarium and pearl harbor. I would have liked to go to the Pineapple plantation I heard they had a big maze for the kids.

Hawaii for vow renewal
I've been to Oahu twice and Kauai. Love them both for different reasons. I think if I had to pick I'd go back to Kauai. It's so relaxing and beautiful. There is plenty to do if you want to keep busy and the food was AMAZING. I liked Oahu too but wasn't crazy for Waikiki. I'd stay there for 2 or 3 nights then head to the North Shore to get more of a Hawaiian feel. Waikiki is very much a city. There are much nicer beaches throughout the island. Lanakai and Honouma Bay are both beautiful. GREAT sushi though in Waikiki. Go to Izakaya Gaku. BEST.SUSHI.EVER.
