Mini Vacation Ideas with 4 y/o
I have been back and forth over this. First we were going to do Hershey, but I have a herniated disk and am leaning towards no theme parks. Then something came up and I decided we were not going to do vacation at all. Now I have decided if I do not do a vacation, I might kill someone. So vacation is back on. I have 1K to spend all inclusive. There are three of us. We could go for up to 4 days. There is three of us. I would rather not spend the bulk of the money on the hotel. $99 econo lodges are fine for us. Go ahead...where should we go? Oh...and its last minute. We plan to go sometime between 8/16-8/19. Oh, and my son has ADHD...

Have you ever been to Mystic? There is the Seaport and the Aquarium, and I think some beaches nearby. You can hotwire or priceline the room and probably get it inexpensively.

What about the Philly area for a few nights? There are a bunch of hotels on rts 70 or 73 in mt. Laurel, NJ that are very close but would be cheaper than staying in the city. My son is almost 4 and loved the please touch museum. There is also the franklin institute which is great for kids, the NJ aquarium, The new digger land theme park is close by ( my son loved it there!!) and Sahara SAMs water park. Coco key is another indoor water park, too

We did Philly in July and my kids loved the Franklin Institute and the Aquarium. I got discounted tickets at www.goldstar.com for both.

If you're willing to go midweek, check out Woodloch Pines and I just saw a deal for Skytop Lodge. They're both in the Poconos, all-inclusive with a lot of on site amenities included in the price. I forget where I swathe deal for Skytop, but it was living social, or groupon, or travelzoo I think. You can also check all three of those sites and see if there's anything that peaks your interest.
ETA- I checked for the Skytop deal, but it's expired already. But I saw a ton of great deals. Places like campsites with cottage rentals, under $100 a night for Lake George, deals that included water park tickets. Definitely check out the sites I mentioned.

Well it looks like we will be "slumming" it in coco key. Every other place was booked and for the price I just couldnt say no. The price also included admission to the amusement park nearby so that kinda sealed the deal. I'll make sure to pack our hazmat suits and review when we get back

Good luck! We went years ago and the hotel was a huge dump, I keep waiting for them to renovate! I check the reviews on TA every so often thinking maybe they will get better. It's a shame because there is a lot of potential there. Kids don't see things the way we do though, so I'm sure he will enjoy it.

Some of the reviews were ok but I have zero expectations. I know DS will have a blast. Either way i will bring a bottle of bleach with me and do a little spot cleaning if I need to. LOL

We've been to Cocoa Key twice. It's not that bad. But it's not that great either. Your DS will enjoy it and that's what counts. And if it's free tickets to Lake Compounce you will have a great time. I love that amusement park for younger kids. It's very clean and lots of age appropriate rides. There aren't any real thrill rides. There are two wooden coasters and one upside down one.

I've been to Coco Key yes its just okay but the water park is a blast for kids so he will have a great time. The good thing is too there are places to eat and some shops (by car) nearby so you dont have to spend your whole time there. Its a decent drive. Have fun!
