Why do people always question others parental decisions? Vent

I just had a 20 minute text with a friend why I should think about not vaccinating my son. I don't understand why people feel the need to preach all the time. Unless someone is harming their baby (and by harming I mean in imminent physical or psychological danger) you shouldn't question parental decisions! Aaaaahhhhhhh

This is one of my biggest pet peeves. Vaccinate? Good! Hold off vaccinations? Good! Bottle feed? Fantastic! Breast feed? Awesome! CIO? You're the best! No CIO? That's wonderful!

It's so hard and there are so many decisions to make. We should support one another instead of trying to convince people our views are best!

Everyone is entitled to their own veiws and opinions. HOWEVER, people have forgotten their manners, (or never been taught in our new "entitled' society) because no one seems to realize when voicing their opinion is inappropriate or rude. Chat Icon

Don't engage these people. ESPECIALLY via text message. How unbeleivably annoying.

Yes, the BF vs FF is one of the hardest to deal with. I remember being lectured at a park for giving my younger DS a bottle, this was almost 4 years ago. A stranger told me how much healthier breast milk was, how that is all she ever fed her kids, etc. That my decision to not nurse my boys would impact their weight and eating habits for life.

Well,I saw that same woman last week, she was at the next table over from us, while I had a picnic at a park with my 6 and 4 year old boys. She didn't remember me.

I found it quite ironic that my boys that ate the poison formula were feasting on grapes, blueberries, organic yogurt, and carrot sticks. Her kids were eating stuff like Cheetos, Capri, sun, etc. I saw no fruits and veggies there.

I guess it only mattered what her kids ate as babies, not afterChat Icon
I normally don't notice what other Moms feed their kids, because if don't care. In her case, I did, since she cared so much about how I fed mine.

Things like that I just shrug and change the topic. You can't usually sway someone to your side and vice versa when it comes to parenting, so I don't engage!

I try not to partake even when it's a comment made to me about another mom's ways like "can you believe she did....... ", hey her kid, her decision if they aren't in harms way then my standard response is, "good for her" I'm sure at some point I am being judged for how I feed, teach, dress, choose to vaccinate, use a pacifier, raise and talk to my children. Whatever as long as my child is nice , behaved and respectful to others I'm fine.

I just spent a week with my MIL. I now have my fill of unsolicited advice in regards to raising my child. Chat Icon

"He doesn't need EI services, you know. My children did just fine without the ASD label. You never should have let them label him. All he needs is socialization. He doesn't need speech either. He'll talk when he's ready."

That's all I heard for 5 days!

I got this too!!! It was one of the scariest things in my life to have to make these decisions that will affect my DD's education for the rest of her life and then people just undermine you and everything you have done. It really made me crazy. I already felt like a failure and people are so quick to join the bandwagon.

I can't imagine ever texting back and forth with someone trying to push my parenting ideals on them.
To me, that is just so ballsy and uncalled for.
Who does shyt like that?
Really??

ITA. When my DS was first diagnosed, my MIL called me at work asking me to fight the diagnosis and said the reason he didn't talk was because he isn't in daycare.. and that if i put him in daycare like BIL's DD was, then he would talk. Chat Icon

I also got a look from some lady that works down the hall from me when she asked (when I was pg with DS) if i would be nursing him and I told her no.

People just need to mind their business.
