If your kid is/was a climber?

Did anything stop him/her?

DS is 16 months old and I am at my wits end. Every time I leave him for a second he is standing on my kitchen table.

Right now I am putting him in time out for a minute in his crib which he doesn't like but 2 minutes later he is back on the table.

HELP!

Re: If your kid is/was a climber?

Nope.

I cannot wait till this stage ends. I need more arms

I get one that's climbed onto a table and the other has turned over a toy to use it to step onto something even higher

It's draining. I hope it ends soon

I just wanted to offer hugs and if you need a drinking partner lol

I knocked over all of my kitchen chairs one day because I couldn't take it... DS didn't climb that day. He drives me CRAZY with the climbing!

No. my DD is a climber, and I find myself keeping them in their high chairs to play or watch a show if I can't be in the room with them. Tonight, I had to drop DD (a) inside whil I went back out to get other other DD. Baby A had not only climbed up onto the dining room table and tried to swing from the chandelier Chat Icon I'm worn out, tapped out, and Gina, I'm ready to drink with you. As soon as I give birth, of course Chat Icon

Uhhh not the answers I was looking for.

It's exhausting! He is close to being able to scale my stove and get on top of it.

He so freaking proud of himself too! Chat Icon

I drink often!

I'll keep with the time out...if anything it is one minute that he isn't climbing.

My kids have always been climbers and still are. My youngest learned how to climb the kitchen cabinets, stands on the counter, and then stands on the microwave so he can reach confiscated toys on top of the refrigerator. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I cant help with the climbing but as far as time out goes, I would recommend putting in a playpen or something.

If you give time out in crib...you may have trouble in future getting them to sleep. leave the crib for the happy restful place. When you put your DC to sleep he may think he getting time out.

Yes and nothing deters her. Yesterday she was super excited because she learned how to climb on the outside table. If there is something she can grab to climb she is all for it. She has no fear.

Re: If your kid is/was a climber?

One of mine understands the threat of a time out and gets off. The other gets up there and tells me "get down, get down". I drink often too lol. Try longer time outs.

DD is 14 months and is a climber too. DS was never this bad. yesterday they were on our deck and we went inside for a minute. Next thing I see DD running in the garden. Our deck has 4 steps to get to the ground and a gate that was locked and we had a large garbage bin in front of it as she can get through the gate. She still managed to escape and climb to the top of the slide by the time DH got to her. DS couldn't even get out and he is 2. We cant take our eyes off her. She climbs the counters too and is nearly able to get on the counter by climbing on the cabinets. Yesterday she was climbing the drawers in my bedroom. She got her feet to the 3rd drawer. I am so scared she is going to pull something down on herself one of these days. I will be very happy when she stops climbing too.
