We are full force in the THREES over here and I have 2 of them.
The fighting and not following directions is unreal right now.

My DD gets into a rage where she throws things, screams, slams doors... it's insanity.

How do you keep your 3 yo in time out. Especially if you have more than one kid?
We used to use the booster chairs bit that just isn't safe anymore. I will sometimes just keep putting them back but sometimes I just can't do that because my younger ds is into everything.

Drinking lots of wine tonight

I feel your pain. I've recently started using the 1-2-3 magic method and it's helping a lot. If you can go to the library and rent the dvd definitely do it. Anyway, I've been putting them in their rooms for tine out. I put a door knob cover on the knob and put packing tape on the seams of it so they can't open it during time out. I take it off at night though. They get 3 minutes in their room and then they come out. If the both need a time out 1 goes in the bedroom and the other goes in a corner in a little chair and I stand right behind the chair. They can get up but they can't go anywhere and I don't talk to them while in time out. It's so rough but with 3 of them running around you do what you have to do. And yes, lots of wine at night ;) I remember when I thought 2 ' s were terrible.....no one warned me about 3's :/

funny you should say that...after spending a week on vacation with us my mom wanted me to order that book. I think I will see if my library has the dvd first.

lately they have been so tough....I leave the room for a minute and a full out brawl breaks outChat Icon They have been up late because we have family in town and that has not helped.

I am going to try the tape and door knob cover idea...thanks!

I definitely recommend getting the dvd over the book. U think it's like an hour or maybe 2 hours and you will probably laugh at it and say "is this for real?". Lol that's what I did. But once I started implementing it it really started to work and I no longer find it funny lol. There are some things that I don't agree with on there but I will do whatever it takes! Good luck!!!

You keep putting them back. I have even held him down keeping him in place. He screamed, but he needs to know he has to sit. He quickly learned and it didn't take long before he sat on the chair without getting off. Chat Icon

ETA: our next step was to bring out the pack n play and stick him in there for timeouts since he can't climb out.

I either keep putting her back or when it's gets really bad, she goes in her room with her door closed. She hates it and freaks out. I hold the door knob and tell her I'm not going to even think about opening it until she sits on her bed and calms down. That usually works, though I feel like mean mommy when I do it. Fortunately, sometimes the threat of taking a time out in her room is enough to make her stop what she is doing.

I threaten him w/ Peppa Pig ...........
No joke, it works.

If you DARE TO GET UP FROM THAT CHAIR YOU'LL BE PUNISHED FOR THE NIGHT WHICH MEANS NO PEPPA PIG !!!!!"

oh, the horror.

w/ my older son, it's the Lego Video Game.

you just have to find the thing they can not STAND to lose. Chat Icon Chat Icon

for the melt down out of control ocassional 3 year old tantrum, I put the gate up in front of his room and tell him he can't come out until he calms down. -

I put her in her room and close the door. She will lay there and cry and sulk and scream. She will come out and apologize 5 mins later. Or, I have a little stool in the corner behind the table here she will sulk, but I tell her "no movie before bed, no bubble guppies, etc". That usually works. A threat def needs to be involved.

How do you keep your 3 year old in time out?

I have the opposite problem. Mine won't leave!!!!! I put him in TO because he was not getting dressed for daycare. He sat there for over 30mins. I would check in with him to see if he was ready to get dressed and he would just tell me NO. SO he sat. Until I had to hold hime down and put on his clothes so I wouldn't miss my train!!!!!

How do you keep your 3 year old in time out?

I have had to physically hold him there. He isn't in time out all that often, but about a month ago I bought a 3 minute sand timer. I flip it and tell him to watch it, once the sand runs out, he is allowed out and he must come get me so we can talk. He has been in time out 3 times since I got it and it has worked every time.
